From standing under the car and seeing exactly what was going on, I think the easiest method would be to cut off the entire tail pipe from the side you want to adjust, trim off a few millimeters and weld it back on. This way, it will be closer to the center. My installer wanted to try moving the bracket points on the hangers but I told him to leave it. I'm going to get some 3.5" Cyba tips and just put those on.

Check out my thread if you were interested in the AA exhaust for your 428i. It's definately worth all the trouble. The dual exhaust looks sweet and it sounds great. I'll try and get a video up soon.

I called a muffler shop and they didn't want to work on the BMW because welding would cause the computer to short out they said....

Wouldn't I be able to simply disconnect the negative lead on the battery and then it could be welded with no issues?

Call a muffler shop that has experience working with BMWs. My shop just disconnected the battery like you stated and everything was okay.

@exclusivo What did you pay for this from start to finish and also does this all work on an x drive car as well? Because I know the piping for exhausts is usually diff on awd cars.

exhaust $100 from forum member
Labor $75
Performance Diffuser $385 on ebay (you can find the stock diffuser much cheaper)

$560 total

Not sure what the xdrive setup is like, but I have not heard of any differences.

How did you do the diffuser ? Did you/they remove it for you there or how did you do it ? I want to go this week and get it done.

I am thinking about doing the same swap OP mentioned. I would like to change my (428i) single side exhaust to a (435) dual M performance exhaust. I have seen some people swap it to the 435 stock exhaust, but I wanted to confirm that I could also do it with a m-performance one.

Has anyone found video clips of how the swap sounds?

Do I just need to purchase a dual rear diffuser and m-performance exhaust then find a muffler shop that will install it?

Do I buy the 435 or the 428 clamp?

And if I bring it to a shop, I don't need to buy a clamp because they will just weld it?

You will need a 428 clamp. I forgot to purchase one and since the 435 one didn't fit, I just had it welded. Yes you can just weld it if you'd like.

Okay cool so I don't need to have a special piece fabricated because the diameters are different? It it's simply a matter of cutting and clamping together with the 428 clamp, I can definitely do that myself. The 428 clamp slides over the 335 exhaust even though the diameters are different?

I'm not entirely sure to be honest. I just know that the 435 clamp didn't work and you would need the 428 clamp if you don't weld. I had mine welded. Also I used a 435 MPE.

hey buddy, have you done any research to tell if the duel sided exhaust has better/louder sounds than the single side 28i version?

You would have to do the same mods to make it work. There needs to be adapter piece made to allow the exhaust to mate with the cars exhaust. You also need a new diffuser.

Sweet. Looking forward to seeing that rear diffuser!

While you are at it either cut or move the exhaust tip locating pins. Check out my build thread for more info on what I did.

Just wanted to chime in and say thanks to all the folks that went before me with the 428i exhaust conversion. Also, I wanted to add a few notes for anyone looking to use the exhaust from a 435 instead of the 335 on their F32.

I found a 435 exhaust on ebay ($250 shipped) with less than 5k miles on it after the owner swapped it out for the MPE. Based on what I had read online, I was expecting the hanger for the right tailpipe to be off and that the tip itself would be off center. Well, that's not the case with the 435 exhaust. The rods fit right into the hangers and the tip is centered. I used the generic M performance diffuser from Bavauto ($170 shipped). Lastly, because my car is owned, I decided to forego the clamp and had the main pipes welded directly to each other. Labor was another $170 here in Tyson's Corner, VA. So for around $600, I was finally able to restore some symmetry to the rear-end of my car.

Immediately I was loving the look. But after they started her up and rolled off of the lift, the louder low rumble planted a big ass grin on my face.
