Warranty question

My car's warranty expires in a year and I am looking to buy an extended warranty. BMW's extended plan is very expensive so I am checking into other companies that provide this service (Warranty Direct, U.S. Fidelis). Has anyone extended their warranty through a NON BMW company and how are you treated for service? Thanks
