Accident - parts delayed?
Hello Everyone, I hate for this to be my first thread but a week and a half ago some a**hole ran a red turn signal and hit my 2 month old 435 on the front driver side and damaged the wheel, fender, bumper and headlight. The wheel got locked up and was undrivable. Now it's at a bodyshop affiliated with the dealership to be repaired. They order ordered the parts for the cosmetic damages like bumper and fender etc. last week and got all the parts except for the fender. They told me it might take them 2 weeks or longer to get the fender.
I heard there were some parts delay/shortage a couple months ago due to BMWs logistic company (I think?) but is it still going on right now? The shop has just disassembled the car today to see what internal damages there were and now I'm afraid that more parts will be backorder. Has anyone experienced any parts shortage recently? |

Back in December 2012 my wife's 2013 328i xDrive was hit on the passenger headlight area. It took about a month and a half for the parts to come in. Worst thing was that my wife had to drive a crappy Hyundai Sonota for Enterprise but we wanted it done right and did not mind the wait.

FWIW, I feel your pain.
Hang in there, in the long run, it should be better to have it done right the first time, than to push the envelope and regret it down the line. Any other thoughts, or do we symbolically lift a glass for him to bear it? |

BMW had some serious parts distribution issues for a good six months. It was supposed to be rectified beginning in September. Seems to be the case. Haven't heard reports of issues since about that time. Not too likely your fender is delayed for that reason.

Also depending are where you are and where the parts are makes a difference. Last couple of months with the weather it has been difficult getting parts from the East Coast.

I'm in PA and I know what you mean about the weather. We were getting snow storms every other week this winter. And of course, the moment my car is in the shop, weather went from 30F to around 65F. It just sucks being without the car b/c its actually something I look forward to during the day.
I was actually a little surprised that it's the fender being delayed, I would've thought the bumper (M Sport) and headlight would be harder to get. But those arrived in 2 days. Just hoping that by next week there would be some news.... |

Don't worry Tom, we've all been there. Days feel like weeks. Just take your mind off it and be happy that you weren't hurt in the accident. Metals and Plastics can be repaired/replaced

Thanks for everyone's kind words. Just contacted the shop for an update, they havent fully disassembled the car but from what they could see currently, the entire left suspension would have to be replaced (his exact words). The best part is they don't even have parts numbers in their system for the suspension b/c the car is so new. I think my rental insurance only covers me for a month so I don't even know what to do after it runs out and my car is still in the shop. Ai yi yi.
