No, after I use the wool the tail pipes look like new. Leaves no artifacts or swirls, no abrasions. Just a shiny, new looking tail pipe. If you are concerned try a small area on the underside of the tail pipes or even on some dirty chrome you might have laying around the house/garage. Once you are comfortable that it leaves no marks then scrub down the entire surface. It will look like new assuming you can get all the carbon build up off.
