265 on 8½" rims?
Hi all
I am preparing this years addition to my 335i for the track and it will be a set of dedicated wheels for track use only. I have sourced a set of 400M 18" rims. 8" wide in the front and 8½" in the back. My problem is to find decent semi slicks that are road legal. If i could find any I would go for the original size (225/45-18 & 255/40-18). However the closest I come is 235/40-18 in the front and 265/35-18 in the back by Toyo and Michelin. I am not affraid of the 235 in the front because the 8" rim is within the recommended rim size. However the recommended rim size for the 265 is 9" so what is your experience in this case?

Go squared instead of staggered as an option? The 235 front tires will fit fine on the 8.5" rear wheel too I think.
Also if they are dedicated track wheels and tires, why not get r rated track tires instead of semi slicks? I'm actually in the same situation. Ive got a set of apex 18" wheels for the track as a dedicated setup. But I can't seem to decide what kind of tires to get. Interested to hear about some options you have considered. Currently I use Pirelli P Zero's on the track and they lack of traction in both front and rear so any extra traction is appriciated regardsless of end of the car. I am used to track it with a staggered setup so I'll continue with that.
I have the performance brakes and they can just fit within the 18" original rims so it was deliberate to have a set of original rims I was looking for. I had the options of 18", 19" and 20" but the possible tires are really limited in number of options the larger the rims. None actually match the OEM sizes. However there are more options for 18" rims. The reason for semi slicks is due to insurance and transport. The track days in BMW Club Denmark require the cars to be road legal in order to have most track time. Besides that insurance requires the car to be road legal and since I also have to drive the car to and from the track on public roads it needs to be road legal there as well. If I go for 235/265 I can choose between Toyo Proxes R888 and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2. If I go for 225/255 I can only choose Toyos. Thats the reason for going with the 265 but that is a bit iffy on the 8½".
