What's your air con like?
Not convinced mine is getting that cold.
The last couple of days, temp outside about 21-22 deg and I normally set the air con to 21 deg most of the year around. Noticed inside was not cooling that well in the car so I turned both dials down to 16 deg. After about 5 mins no colder air seemed to be coming out. Tried this yesterday and today. Held my hand 6 inches away from the vent expecting it to blow very cold air, but it's not. Just moderately cold air. Btw the thumbwheel is obviously on the cold setting. What's everyones air con like? Does yours get really cold at 16 deg?

Sounds like yours is fecked!
It amazes me how quick mine gets cold, I barely get out of my street and it's freezing. Wife's Qashqai takes about 5 times as long! |

Hmmmm, looks like I'll have to book it in, although don't hold out much hope with the dealer. In the past when I've had air con issues with other cars they put it on their machine and tell me it's working fine.

Utterly shit, drive 50 mins and it starts failing, warm air from passenger side.
Had it at utterly shit dealer and their amazing machine said no fault. So person behind the desk was pretty much saying 'you are lying there is no fault' Even though the reported fault was sweating like a rapist in a line out. Luckily the car goes back in August, so BMW can fix their own non fault. |

Yes, that's the first thing I set to cold, as I said I'm the original post!

My climate control is rubbish compared to all previous cars.
Pressing the maximum A/C button brings loads of freezing air but the climate seems totally incapable of holding a temperature. |

What happens when you use the MAX button? should chill very quickly, down to something like 8C at the vents. If it is not chilling fast on MAX, you know for certain there is a problem.

I had a failed compressor replace under guarantee at 2 years old. There seemed to be a faulty batch for Feb2014 builds with several forum members with Feb14 builds having a similar failure. I note your car is a later build

So, driving around today with the temp set on 16 deg for both dials and its just about blowing coolish air. But not much better than a desk fan! Missus agreed that its not great .... so I'll get it booked in.

Use a DIY charge kit to check the pressure every year. Comes with a handy gauge so even if it doesn't require a top up at least you know what the pressure is.
In the past I have had intermittent issues with an a/c compressor. A faulty fuse is the best hope though! Let us know how you get on. It could be a bad seal if it's working albeit inefficiently. Or left the factory under filled. It's making cold air but doesn't last. Time to check for leaks and system pressure level. Especially if no fault for a/c fan clutch or climate controls. Keep us posted. |
