What sort of diagnostics system did you put it on? If not a proper BMW dealer one (or similar SUN diagnostics) then I’d get it on one of them, it might cost £70-£100 but worth it as you’ll know exactly what’s wrong then.

Also have you taken it for a long drive?

If someone know or think what it can be can someone help me.
Thanks
Have you checked out the actual variable vane turbo function/actuation? Reduced function/stuck vanes can be a cause of no/low boost at low rpm.

The 320D really is a gruff noisy unit compared to the Aldi 2l TDI

Our A4 is noticeably more refined and quiet if less punchy. I have remied tis now with a Revo remap which gives it a nice head of steam.

I am not put off entirely with BMW as I am considering a used M4 for my retirement toy or the Cayman S.

I should have bitten the bullet and gone 335 or 330d but as it's used for mundane family motorway use and the fact I'm buying it I couldn't quite justify the purchase price. The M4 is petrol and for 'my' use so it's a different kettle of fish!!

Audi A4 is as boring as hell though.

My 320d, using Cruise Control Stop & Go, set at 73 mph on the Autobahn :
60 mpg always.
Up in the smoke it can drop to 35 mpg.

It is an amazing car and compared with most of its type, I would think unbeatable. This shows by the popularity of the 320d.

If anyone with a 320d cannot obtain this, something is not right!

You are looking to see if the actuator arm on the side of the turbo is moving 'on and off' throttle. There are YouTube videos showing the action if you need more idea.

I am disappointed with my F31 320D Sport Auto fuel consumption. General motoring, despite feather footed driving, it consistantly does no more than 45mpg. On a 200mile motorway type run I can get up to 51-52 mpg but no more. Around town 30-31mpg is the norm.

I'd say that's very good for a heavy un-aerodynamic estate with wide grippy tyres. If you want better then you need a 320d ED saloon.

Oh well!...Thanks for the reassurance. I didn't want the ED or ED+ because of the lower BHP so I guess wanting it all doesn't work in this case!
Maybe then I am being a bit hard on it because being a newbie BMW owner (Ex-VAG) generally speaking i love the car. It's just that with all the hype about the 8 speed BMW auto box in the 320D returning fantastic consumption and the BMW official MPG claims of 60+mpg I was expecting a bit better real world figures.

My remapped Volvo V50 D5 with an older less economical engine would give me 30-32mpg whilst being driven like a criminal. On a long run 50mpg was quite easily.

I'd say on a long run you should get more than 50.

My 335d saloon averages about 37mpg, same as my old F30 330d sdrive, so 8mpg better on a 320d estate sounds about right.

That sounds low. Mine is a manual - I wonder if that is the difference. I get 45mpg in winter and 55mpg in summer on my commute which is all town driving. 60mpg on the motorway.
i get a big difference between summer and winter and did open a new thread about it last summer.

Hmm....A general truism in most cars is that a manual box, as your figures suggest, is usually more economical, however with the BMW 8speed auto box it is supposed to be the reverse and be more economical than the manual.
I swallowed the BMW hype and it appears to me in the real world not to be true...Love the silky smooth gearchanges though!

Don’t believe the hype!
Moved from f30 manual to f36 auto and the difference in my consumption is 10mpg
