I got one, how/why did you become a service advisor??? Is it something you were interested in? Or did you work in other departments with BMW?

Um, I didn't get my second key for 2 weeks b/c they couldn't find it. Consider yourself lucky. Lol

They literally lost it and couldn't find it in their warehouse or in the main building.

They found it and mailed it to me 2 weeks later. Lol

I have a key fob from a 2016 X3. The X3 was recently totaled. Can the key fob be reprogrammed to work on another BMW (if so, what models/years)?

Sorry for the reprint of post 28 - hoping for some input...

My '11 128i 6mt is almost at 70,000 miles. It runs new, feels new, looks new. What service do I "really" need to do? I've heard the horror stories about the water pump but otherwise am I just looking at a brake / diff fluid change and maybe a belt job, or am I looking at selling a kidney? (Recently moved and the books are packed up somewhere, so i'm not sure what BMW has in store). I'm getting the "car up on the lift" icon on the dash. Makes my wallet feel warm

My wife has a 2012 X5 diesel with 80k miles. Itís been rock solid, zero issues and drives and performs as well as the day we bought it new. Always dealer serviced. How have these engines done over 100k miles, 130k? She drives a bit in Philly and such and certainly donít want her stranded. This a 200k mile vehicle? Thank you

If a part is purchased at the Bmw dealership parts department and installed at a different shop or at home, how is parts 2-year-warranty treated if particular part fails within that period.

Will the car need to be diagnosed by bmw before warranty is granted, and if yes does the diagnostic fee come out of our pocket?

2015 X5 - pealing/flaking AC fan buttons. Will BMW entertain replacing them (still under warranty)? Are all the buttons just one packet or individual button by button replacement?

Not a service adviser but would say chances are good if there are no signs of abuse/neglect.

I had the rubberized coating around the front edge of the iDrive Nav screen start to peel up. SA said the service manager wanted to inspect the area himself to make sure it was a defect. He looked at it and gave the thumbs up for replacement. Didn't know what the hassle was all about since it was just a plastic trim piece. Well, found out BMW doesn't sell the trim piece separately. The entire assembly, screen and all, had to be replaced at the list price of $1000.

I think this is correct. My understanding is if you didn't get comfort access with your car, your key fob has a rechargeable battery which gets charged when you insert it into the opening for it in the dash. But this rechargeable battery is not user replaceable. The comfort access key fobs use replaceable lithium CR2032 batteries. One of those times it pays to not go bare minimum with options.

Don't understand the logic behind why BMW chose to do the key fobs this way.

The BMW dealership I worked for in SoCal from 2002-2006ish had a lease program for top CSI (the surveys you fill out after your visit) scores. If you met the criteria for the year, BMW would sponsor 50% of the payment on a 1 year lease. Our dealership would pay half of your half, effectively turning a $400/month lease into $100/month out of pocket for the employee.

The program was open to sales and service advisers if I recall correctly. I'd imagine a similar program is still in effect since BMW is still pushing CSI scores.

bmw has killed off CSI actually. center lease program allows for a certain dollar amount under invoice plus all available incentives at the time for employees

what type of vehicle? sounds unrelated to what your car went in for obviously. does said vehicle have air ride suspension? sounds like an air strut is leaking

you would need to bring the car in to have it diagnosed and that part in question would need to be deemed failed due to manufacturers defect. so yes you would need to sign off on diagnosis and if its confirmed eligible for parts warranty the technician will also be paid by bmw to install the new part. you will not be charged diagnosis if the part is covered by parts warranty.

I have seen e70 diesel X5's with 180k miles and they seem to be solid overall. bmw does have some extended warranties on certain components which have a tendency to fail. scr cat and nox sensors ( covered up to 10 years or 120k total miles)

car on the lift icon can be signs of a weak battery. other than routine maint. I tell people with higher mileage cars to start doing oil changes every 5k over the 10k recommened by bmw. do a coolant flush as well every 3 years. keeps that expensive water pump alive longer.

that's going to be a judgement call by your service manager. I have seen these parts warrantied before though so I would definitely push for it and yes it will be a panel of new buttons.

not that im aware of. keys are only able to be used for the car it was made for. im sure there are people out there capable of doing this but not through the dealership

Need some advice

Purchased a new M3 on 1/26 and immediately had issues with check engine lights, ABS systems and more returned it to the dealership the next day. The service department found that the ABS module was defective and needed to be replaced. As of today, the car is still at the dealership. This is not the quality or customer service experience I was hoping for when buying a New M3. Do you know who makes the decision to repurchase the vehicle - is it BMW corporate, or the dealership? I'm getting conflicting answers from each...

Interesting to hear you started at Honda. I’ve recently started a career as an SA for Honda in Canada. Really enjoying it so far. The good pay plan helps.

I’ve always been keen on moving on to the luxury space after some time, BMW in particular. How much of your work is customer pay vs warranty? How’s it different from Honda?

I just had to replace the rear brake pads, and lightly resurface rear rotors - 19k miles (228iX, no tracking). Is this common? I'd expect fronts to go much faster. Front rotors also look as grooved as the rears were, but they say pad sensors say they have >25k miles left on them and nothing needed in front; should I push to have those worked on too?

My car is a 2016 M3 6MT (standard brakes). Prior to this I have a 335xi MSport (6MT as well) with the MSport brake option. On that previous car I'd notice when it was raining out that my brakes would not grab instantaneously. Kind of like a slip before they would grab. On my M3 it is really bad. Literally doesn't grab for like 2 seconds and then clamps. 26k Miles. I will bring it in but have you seen this?

Just took delivery of a 2018 X5d a few weeks ago. Have treated all of our vehicles like M cars along with more strict maintenance. Would it be worth it to do an early oil service at around 2500 miles to get break in wear particles out? Also front and rear differentials for the same reason. Plan on keeping it a long time and don't trade up in three years like some people.

I have a problem on my '08 x5 3.0sd. My dashboard/instrument light/cluster have all gone black. Navi, stero,pw inner lights work just fine but speedomeeter, rpm, clock and everything else in that window is dead. Do you have an idea of what could be wrong? Are there any fuses to the dashboard?
