I really want nicer instrument cluster & center console. I had chance to sit in the new Audi A4 & A5 (as well as the S5) and their info readout with the color display is very nice as and the high center console allows for a more cocoon like driving position.

I felt my e36 328i had a better driving position than my 335i, so I am hoping for some improvements on that area as well.

I would also like to see some form of air/electronically controlled suspension as an option.

Get rid of the run flats! (I almost didn't buy another BMW because of this!)
Lose some weight
Keep the manual and make it better (please!!)
Improve the interior (just a bit, don't go crazy. You could learn a few things from Audi, but not too much)
Keep the sport option, add slightly louder exhaust and add lowered suspension to the xi)
LSD (on non-xi)

So... essentially lose more weight, add more goodies, and reduce the price, amirite?

oh and add LSD so it performs like the M3

because they care more about the person in the drivers seat, not the one in the passenger seat?

Don't think I saw it anywhere else - give me a I-drive option to disable the seatbelt butlers. Half the people that get in the car screw up the passenger side assist. I'm just waiting for someone to snap it off.

Short of that, I'd like confirmation from a BMW engineer that pulling fuse #25 (or whatever number it is, too lazy to check the DIY forum) has no effect on the air bag system. I know the car doesn't indicate an airbag malfunction, but I'm not a big fan of finding out the hard way with a proven safety system.

A sunroof option is the biggest for me. I never wanted or use it and it adds approx 80lbs to the car.

Better leather on the seats.

Overal I' m pleased, but here is what I' d want to be improved:

1) just like a member said on page, add a turn off switch for the auto airco, I' m also pissed at having to press the button several times to turn airco off
2) too much rattle in the car, my E46 made no noise at all, and here everything cracks all the time, seats, armrest, folding backseats and what else. When turning off the radio, it sounds like I' m in some 20 year old car. And this is not limited to E90, saw the same prob in 1 series and X6.
3) add standard active suspension, like Mercedes have done with the C class. I drove one and it is light years ahead of BMW in terms of comfort and sportiness (the thing adapts real time to the type of road you' re driving on, and to your driving style, it is really fabulous)
4) make pdc faster (takes a second or 2 before pdc screen turns on), and also increase the distance from which it starts beeping, as when backing fast, you' ll NEVER have the time to stop if it starts beeping (happened to me on a parking at night, hit a concrete block that was too low for me to see, and pdc beeped too late for me to brake).
5) auto wipers are not sensitive enough. When raining hard they' re barely increasing speed, forcing me to do it manually. Happens all the time and pisses me off
6) improve audio packages. Standard audio is absolutely worthless, and even the premium packages are a joke when compared to Audi' s Bose stuff.

Because it is one more component that adds weight and will increase a chance of failure. How often do you have to adjust your steering wheel? Is it really hard to use your own muscles to do it?

People, including myself, keep bashing BMW for building heavy ass cushy rides but the truth is that the consumer, who basically shops by lining up the feature list of competitive cars without really looking into the essence of what an automobile, is the one in charge to turning modern cars into boring pieces of shit.

+1 and +1 or some high quality cloth. I'm not a huge fan of leather myself.

Things you would like to see Carried over to the next generation

We've been having a lot of I wish BMW had this and that on the next generation 3er, now what do you want BMW to carry over from the e90/e92/e93?

I'll kick it off:

The really really really good heated seats. Those suckers heat up in just 2 minutes. It's wonderful.

The REST button/feature.

The ability to swap/enable your headlight switch to support rear fog lights (in the US market).

The heated seats will be carried over for sure, but this feature on the E46 was way better. It had the same 3 stage heating but it heated up much quicker than in E90. Car is dead cold after sitting in the parking lot for the day, after I get in, start the engine, turn on seat heating, wait ~15 seconds for the rpm to drop a bit, then drive to the exit of the parking lot, and my butt is already warm, that's how quick it was. I am actually quite disappointed with the heated seats in the E90. The E46 I had was a convertible; don't know if it had anything to do with the heat up speed. Anybody else had similar experiences?

+1 I had to opportunity of order a 2009 model. Loved the new i-drive display but detested the new controller. I really enjoy my clutterless i-drive knob

I'd like to get back to the driver-centric layout that was on my E21, E30, and somewhat E36. The cockpit has become less connected with the driver.

I guess it's too late for that, but every time I look into an older BMW, I long for that sort of setup again. And 1000 pounds less fat on the chassis.

Wow, your seats aren't hot enough for you? I can't leave mine at the "3" setting for too long, I feel like I'm roasting.

Carrying over the heated seats is a good call. One of the things BMW does very, very right on this car. Bluetooth implementation is done right, too. It is easy to use and just works right. I've had 3 phones since I got the car, and all have worked great with BT. I would hope BT integration is as good on the next car.

I also like the auxiliary speedo hand that makes a "tic mark" for the cruise control. Useless but cool, and I hope they have that in the next model, too.

Also, something my MY06 has but they stopped doing since MY07, I would hope the next model will allow you to fold in the mirrors when locking the car, unfold upon unlocking. Again, not totally useful, but cool.

Evolution, not Revolution

+1 on the heated seats – I'm good to go in seconds and need to bring it down two steps after ten minutes otherwise I feel as if I'm driving with my hair on fire.

Engine: At least 280 HP for the NA inline 6, 360 HP for the turbo.

Exterior? Mini 5, only more aggressive, sportier with at least one or two distinguishing features: larger grill?

Interior? Same philosophy as the 5, only more sportier and durable with as good as quality and attention to detail. Oh, and offer speed cloth/alacantra, 6FL, Bluetooth and non-nav iDrive as no/low-cost options.

Weight? Equal or less would be great. Realistically, not more than +100 lbs

On the subject of weight, take the brand new X-Drive to the next level by reducing the weight by 100 lbs. and eliminate the steering penalty.

Oh, and 2K more? Bring that down as well.
