What temperature do you allow your engine oil to reach before racing the engine?
Just wanted to know what is the minimum oil temperature that you think the car should attain before slamming on the accelerator?
I've noticed on my car, the steady state temperature is about 235 F but it take a long time to reach that temperature (about 10-14 minutes of driving). Was wondering if it is safe(in the long run) to take the engine to near red line speeds before the temperature reaches steady state? |

racing the engine and WOT are 2 different things.
I think WOT runs could be done around 200. Racing your F30...I would do some warm up laps and have it around 235 or so before I flog it around a track.

No youre fine. Make sure that needle just moves up to 180 then start doing spirited driving. Gotta let the oil thin out and get to all the moving parts.

Yeah that's what I normally do; wait for the needle to just start pushing up a bit beyond its hibernating state at 160F. That itself take an agonizing 6-8 minutes or so.

Lol I feel your pain it seems like it takes hours to get to 180. I kinda think for turbo cars they should have done it like in the M3 and limit the RPM's until engine reaches proper operating temp.
