Emailing Destinations to BMW Nav

So I am currently awaiting delivery of a Sport Line F30. One of the features I was looking forward to is the ability to send destinations to your car from your phone since I often use my phone to find points of interest rather than my nav. I use an iPhone and am upgrading to iOS 6. For those familiar with this you'll know that Apple has done away with the Google maps app and built their own. I'm now wondering if this option to email a destination to the car from the maps app will work anymore. I've researched this a bit and it seems like this feature is specific to google maps. Does anyone have any information regarding this or maybe even any experience if you own an F30 and have already began using iOS 6? Any info would be appreciated.

Short answer is yes, it still works.

There are 2 ways I use to send an address to the car.

1. Google web maps on a PC. You can locate something (get the red/pink bubble), left click, more -> Send -> Car, ...

This works on Chrome on a PC, but it does not work in Safari or Chrome on IOS (5 or 6) on my iPad. I can't get it to pop-up the square bubble to select more and then send. If anyone knows how to do this on IOS, please let us know!

2. You can send addresses in IOS, but only through the BMW Remote application (it's free) AFAIK. This app does not require BMW Apps to be purchased, but it does require that you have a BMW Assist account (as does sending address through Google Maps).

I loaded ISO 6 on my iPad today and the BMW Remote application Google Local Search function now brings up the Apple Maps instead of Google Maps (as expected). It still lets you search and select a location and then you can send it to the car from there. I just tried it and it works just fine.

Bottom line is that the BMW Remote app works fine for me under ISO 6.

Thanks for the replies. Good to hear it still works seamlessly with iOS 6! Can't wait to start using it myself!

Can you elaborate? The Google maps web page can be loaded in Chrome or Safari, but how do you get to the "send to car" feature in Google maps in IOS6?

There isn't a google maps standalone app for IOS6 is there? If there is, I can't find it.

There's a funny looking icon next to the print symbol on the googlemaps screen. It's Email. Then there's a next choice to email and click on car. You'll need the email linked to BMW assist.

I see the link icon next to the print icon, but only in chrome on a PC.

Using Safari or Chrome on an iPad/iPhone (IOS 5 or 6) does not show these icons on the Google maps page for me.

Are you using something that spoofs the browser type that fools Google maps into thinking it's not a mobile platform?

To use ios, you will need the BMW remote app. It works really well. And you dont have to enter your email address every time.

Agreed, the BMW remote app works great with both IOS 5 and 6.

I was just wondering how he got the google maps web page running in Safari or Chrome to send a location to the car as an alternative to using the remote app.

It's not really a big deal as the remote app shows google/apple maps integrated into app; the question was how did he get that to work directly from a web browser in IOS.

I figured it out.

In IOS Chrome, if you select the "Request Desktop Site" in the options list, Chrome reports that the browser is in desktop mode (and not mobile) mode and I get the links icon and can send nav addressed to my car.

I still can't figure out how to get it to work on Safari, but it's not a big deal.
