Leather dashboard, Is it worth the wait?
I have a 435GC on order since 8/23 however I found out it won't go into production until January 11th due to the leather dashboard option being out of stock. For those with the Leather Dashboard, is it worth the wait?

Consider that you'll have more leather to clean and condition. It's always in the sun too since its on the dashbord. Personally don't have it, don't even have my car yet. I had to wait for M sport brakes.

I have one car with leather dash and one without. Never came into my mind until I read this thread
I personally wouldn't pay extra for it, or suffer a delay because of it. |

For me it would have been worth the wait because opting for the leather dash also eliminates the seat-colored dash on the F32/i think also F36. When I ordered my MG F32 I wanted Coral red seats/door leather, but didn't want the coral red extending onto the dash as it just seemed just a bit overkill.

Leather dashboard looks good but is a bit 'over-investing' in in a 3- or 4-series IMHO. Fit and finish of the standard dashboard is just fine.
But it was your choice in the first place... |

I ordered my 435 GC same time as you - I cancelled my dash. Picked up the car yesterday! So far I will say that the red dash is not as overwhelming as originally thought (I ordered coral red). The actual dash still looks good and I haven't really paid much attention to it not being leather so far (it's really only been a day).
If you're not in a rush and can wait until Feb/March - then go for it. If you're tired of waiting, I say just cancel it - or go back to the dealership and look at the dash again without leather and see if you'll miss not having leather. |

I agree that the LD looks particularly good in a vehicle with CR interior as it changes the whole dashboard. Not so sure it is as stunning with black interior.

Yes, it is stunning in a black interior or any interior color because instead of looking at a mass of cheap plastic in front of you, you are seeing a higher quality material that blends with the rest of the sporty / luxurious interior of your car. It really is hard for me to explain and never guessed it would make that much of a difference until I sat in my car for the first time. I had never seen a leather dash in a F3X before that.

I had an E39 M5 with the standard non-leather dash and I never missed it. I've sat in leather-dashed M5s, and they were nice, for sure. Based on pictures I've seen of the F36, the leather dash similarly strikes me as "nice", but not "must-have". I prefer the two-tone Coral dash, which instantly rules out the leather option for me, and I'm fine with that. Concerned that a red lower dash might be over-the-top, I visited my local dealer and inspected an F32 with Coral, and was pleased (and slightly relieved) by its subdued real-life appearance. It's a nice blend of sport and sophistication.
It sounds like you prefer the dash, and since you've already made it halfway through the wait and now have a production date, my advice is to enjoy the holiday season, then take delivery early next year and celebrate "new car" season with the leather dashboard you always wanted.

If I couldīve, I wouldīve.
Never take the advice from someone who doesnt have the option, but has "tried" it and feel "I can live without it". Having it and living with it, any option in general, makes you appreciate things WAY more than just trying something quick knowing you donīt have it (and subconsiously convincing yourself you didnt miss out on a thing). A leather dash, has absolutely no damn function at all, but god damm does it look sexy and give u an awesome feel everytime you sit in your car. Not that you will always look at it and drewl, but it will add to the every-day experience. Do it.

I have the individual leather dash (with contrasting stitching and leather on the top of the doors). I understand you are likely referring to the leather dash only, with black stitching.
Regardless, I say you should definately get it and wait. I have 3 options I absolutely love, I am unsure which one of the 3 I would omit if I had to: 1) leather dash (for me it brings the car to a higher level) 2) Heads up display 3) surround cameras (I almost didn't order this one, it would have been a huge mistatake) I am a terrible parker and colorer - at least my parking is within the lines now. However if you never had any problems with parking, this is the one I would give up. Generally I wouldn't want to give up any of the options on my car (basically every option except for some of the safety options), but these 3 weren't available on my e92, so they are all new for me. Reverse camera I virtually never use, I prefer the top view of the surround cameras. But your question was regarding the dash - yes get it - maybe if you have kids or take a lot of parcels in your car or leave your car outside in the sun I might say skip it. So far no issues, but I do fear the day somebody puts a scratch in the leather. |

If you get Red leather interior, Its absolutely worth the wait. I wish it was an option with I ordered my '14. The leather dash gives you a black lower dash. Normally you get a painted red lower dash with red interior and it looks a little cheap / too red. The Red / Black combo is much nicer with the leather dash.
However, I think it's $910 right? I wouldn't get that over something more useful like Suroundview or Heads Up Display that you'll use a lot more. The leather dash is a nice final option on top of everything else you wanted buts its hardly worth 900 bucks. This is the perfect example of an option you won't be able to re-coupe any money on re-sale from. I've seen it in person and I like it. But I disagree its makes the car a higher level. I think the 3/4 interior materials are kind of on the cheap side for 50/60K car. For me the leather dash doesn't fix the core cheap plastic-y-ness of dash and console itself. I'd get it if you get Red leather, otherwise I'd personally spend the money on something like an ///M Performance trim or steering wheel if it was a final option. -Time |

Unfortunately, the leather dash was not an option when I ordered (not sure if the F30 even gets it now). When I was last in for service, I took a quick look at the M3/M4 and 4 Gran Coupe, and damn, if I could retro it into my car, I definitely would. |

It's different from something like the driver assistance package that you can decide you'll actually use or not before you order. That said, it's nowhere near the quality of the full merino leather dash in the higher series cars, but it's also better than soft touch plastic, and it just looks slick. For $900 over the course of a 3 year lease (for example), it comes out to less than (roughly) a dollar a day.

I wouldn't wait for it.
My Z435 has stitching everywhere in the dash and door panels and I don't notice it at all or miss it when I get into wife's 335 with standard dashboard for a "keeper" there is also a durability question |

I guess it's also different here in Canada. Most of the 'enthusiast' spec'd vehicles will be ordered anyways, so adding leather dash won't delay your vehicle.
