335i marketed towards?
Who is the 335i marketed for....? I'm probably having a brain fart, but I can only imagine it for someone who enjoys a more powerful than average car. The 328i is 0-60 in 5.9 which is faster than most sedans, so what's the purpose of a 335i? I'm not flaming or being whatever, but how can they sell so many cars for what I can only imagine is such a small group of people who want one.

I always saw it as the enthusiasts car that didn't want the sedan look. I know you can slap on a supercharger on the M3 but the 335 looks like an enthusiasts dream in terms of all the options they have to tune their car to their needs because of the turbo.

The 335i is aimed at people who can't buy the 330D or who still think power is more important than torque

Dont get caught up in the marketing presentation of lines and 328. Vs 335. They're all 3ers with options. To me the upgrade was a no brainier...and a lot easier to justify than other options offered. |

For an enthusiast who wants luxury but DOESN'T want the bone-breaking long-term experience of driving an M3.
I'm actually the target audience: drove an Evo VIII before, side-stepped to a TSX for better mileage/luxury (there was no joy in driving it), and saw the new F30 as a hybrid of both. I didn't want an M3 because I knew the mileage would be horrible, and I need a daily driver that can at least get me 30mpg. I needed power and tune-ability (BMS/Dinan/etc appealing to me). I needed a sporty suspension that wouldn't decimate my back like my Evo VIII did. Enter the 335i.

You missed out a crucial few words there: "in the USA". The rest of the world's average Joe would not buy the 328i. The rest of the world has to pay for their fuel and has access to diesel cars and diesel on every forecourt I would think the 320D would be the most popular choice in most countries

Seriously, I think everyone has a different reason. Cost is important for everyone, it's HP for others. And, I don't understand your last sentence. BMW doesn't sell a lot of 335i's. The 328i is a great car gets the job done, and is better in couple of ways because it is 150lbs lighter. |

I don't know the numbers (never seen any reported, actually), but if you go by what's on dealers' lots, it's probably only 5% 335i models. Of course that will likely change. But BMW seems to be really pushing the 328i. It stands to reason that there is more margin in that car, as well.

What the land on the other side of the pond needs really, really badly is the 330d. It's the only way to be true F30 BMW Boyz.

I would have ordered one without any hesitation. My previous E90 was a 335d, a real torque machine.
