Extended warranty options
I own my 2014 328ix, just passed 70,000 km on the odometer, so before the factory warranty runs out at 80k, I'm exploring what options I have for an extended warranty. I plan to keep the car for a few years, I drive roughly 30K a year, but would like some kind of coverage for expensive repairs.
So obviously my BMW dealer offers some extended warranty options, I have made an inquiry already with them. Yep, I'll probably be paying a premium. I do see several 3rd party warranty options out there, got a quote from one that seems reasonable for what it offers, anyone have experience with 3rd party extended warranty plans? Any you recommend? Any I should avoid?

I have the same vehicle but I am no way near the 80000 kms allowance but the 4 years is coming up. I was under the impression once you opted out of the extended warranty that you could not purchase it? I am curious what the cost would be for to be extended if you don't mind and would I have to extend it through the dealer I bought it from (which is horrible by the way).

For my 2011 e90 i opted out of extended warranty. Through BMW an extra 2 years would have been $2500 and 3 years would have been $3500
I looked into 3rd party places and it would have been around $1500 In the end I didn't go through BMW because it was too much and I didn't go through 3rd party because of all the stories about denying claims and then trying to use aftermarket or used parts instead of new oem Car was totalled a a year and a few months after warranty ended but during the course of the year I had to change one lower control arm and my water pump (which i knew would happen at some point). Based on math, if I went with BMW extended warranty I would have over paid compared to how much I spent out of pocket over the course of a year My f30 warranty is up end of October and I don't plan on even considering extended warranty from anyone. A little bit of diy when possible and a good Indy shop is the best way to go This could be completely void if f30 extended warranty is cheaper than e90. But I doubt it To give a comparison my 2 year extended warranty from Ford for a mustang was $900. That was worth it even after considering BMW vs Ford repair cost |

You can get an extended warranty as long as you are under warranty.

Agreed. Just bought my car (used) and the finance manager went over some extended warranty options. I said it wasn't in my budget, and he said no problem - I could purchase an Ext Wty at a later date as long as the car is still under the original 4 year/80K km warranty.

I personally for a 2016 340i purchase the platinum 100,000/6 year warranty and it cost 2700. Considering it a brand new engine I believe it will be worth it. I would recommend research about your engine and get a general idea of what repairs you may experience in the next 2 years
