If you do like idea of detailing, some do training courses.

For a new car, it is more the sealant that is required.

Polish is used to remove marks within the paint (swirls etc) then usually detailer applies product he uses.

Untrained people + electric polisher = respray

Checking out http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/foru...splay.php?f=89

Or someone on here may advise.
Agree to all of the above :thumbsup

Yep.

I need to get my detailer to do another machine polish. This is after me carefully cleaning & waxing over the past year. No matter how carefull i am there are still some minor swirls that bother me.

So, I let the dealer do their standard preparation... I'm just waiting for a time when I have the 5-8 hours free on a dry and preferably overcast day to do the work myself. A detailer will have a decent sized, clean and dry indoor space so they can work effectively all year round. My garage is cramped and the opposite of McLaren clean...

I'll just strip off their wax, deep clean the paint and re-protect. Hopefully there will be nothing to correct...

I do my car properly 2-4 times a year. Every spring to sort it out after winter and every autumn, late on, to give protection for winter. If I have an opportunity in summer, on a dull day, I'll do the car again, just for the extra shiny shiny element.

You can get a good couple of months out of most protectants, more if topped up. I use wax and top it up with an acrylic sealant when I gave the chance for more than just a basic wash. About 20 minutes extra to Spritz on DoDo Supernatural Spritz, spread and buff up.

For Iron remover I have DoDo Ferrous Duller. Basically attacks iron deposits on your paintwork and removes them prior to claying.

Once protected the car is easy to wash, the paintwork is protected and it is extra smooth so there is no roughness for muck to cling to.
What sort of preparation bmw do if you dont have seal and protect? Will they still polish it?

I don't think any BMW dealer will ever polish a car. Unless it has something that needs correcting. They will usually just add some basic protectant... Or expensive basic protectant if you opt for seal and protect...

Polishing and waxing are two separate parts of a detail.

Polishes work on the paint to smooth and cleanse.
Waxes and sealants protect a pre-prepared surface.

Edit, just quickly washed my car as it was assaulted by seagulls... The basic protection is already showing signs of washing off! Hopefully I can do it properly soon...

Finally what is iron remover? Cant seem to find it.
Thanks
I use Swissol (factory not far from me) and have been using it for well over 10 years. They have a nice detailed guide free to download on their website - worth a read for you.

I am cancelling my seal & protect and decided to have it professionaly detailed. I ask my dealer how long they spend applying seal&protect and the answear was "i don't know" so i don't really see a point paying them 400 for something they don't have a clue about.
So my first question is that..

1. is it a good idea if i detail the car myself? I have been polishing and waxing quite alot in past 5-6 years. Also can buy all the good products including electric polisher under 400. (Do you really need 1?? Or it can be hand polish) I havn't actually used a polisher but it dsnt seem thAt difficult after watching a youtube.

2. If it ain't a good idea then is there someone whom you would recommend? I am in Blackburn Lancashire and how much will it cost.?? Can also travel and stay over if it really matters

Thanks in advance guysrolleyes:
I can't labour enough how much I appreciate the work that was carried out by Tom at TKDetailing. For 250 he sealed my car for 2 years and I spent the whole day learning from him aswell. If you need any details give me a shout mate.

Hi walesy

Noticed from reading through the detailer forums you seem to have a lot of knowledge about what's best and how to look after your car properly.

I have had my new estoril blue msport for about three weeks now and wanted to ask you if you know of any trustworthy car washes in the Glasgow area. I know, by hand is best and car washes should always be avoided, but wondering about decent hand wash places. I do a lot if miles per week.

I live in Bearsden, washing my car by hand myself isn't easy as I don't have a driveway, it generally requires me to wash it on the main road.

Thanks for any help and advice you can offer.
