My buddy got a 320 at the same time I got my 328. He settled for it because it had the coral red interior and the 328 he eyed didn't.

Although they both looked the same it was night and day when we drove the two.

He regrets getting the 320 everyday and I'm glad I got the 328 with black interior.

It is possible to buy a base 320i and even with aftermarket rims and exhaust/tune be under the $40K mark brand new. You can do even better with a used car. The tune will bring it near 335i performance figures, certainly better than the 7+ second 0-60 without a tune.

I regret not buying a 340i or a M3. All the time.

It has NAV, reverse camera and front/back sensors. I have driven them both and I find the 328i xdrive was alot smoother to drive and faster acceleration . 320i xdrive was alot more reving and a sport feel. I like the mileage as well on the 320i plus manufacturer warranty was up to 2020 (1 year in addition compared to 328i).
Let's say this... I'm a car guy. Extra tech has never put a smile on my face like when you smash the pedal to the floor and lay back in your seat from the power. I never use the Nav like I think I will in cars. Actually, using Google Maps or some other app is so much quicker than Nav, so I never get Nav in my cars now. I hate the backup cameras, because I grew up driving muscle cars with limited tech. Mirrors are fine by me. The sensors annoy me. Old habits die hard. I understand tech is important, but I'd rather have the pep and power over most creature comforts. Personal preference. I got into a loaner 320i and was dying to get back into my tuned 328xi. And only after tuning the 320 like crazy will it even out to the feel of the 328, all things being similar. There isn't a huge weight difference or cornering difference - just simply power. But, it's a decision that you have to make. I chose power. And heated seats. lol. And I still want an M3.

I'm glad I got the 340 over the 328. For the same price I got the bigger engine and more equipment is standard vs having to add the option on the 328 bumping it past the 340 base price. It was a no brainer.

Having driven it for a year as a daily driver and also on some 2000 mile road trips, I can say that the car does have plenty of power - most of the time. It's very easy to get into jail territory even with the 320xi. The cornering and handling and great. It's fun to drive.

The only time I felt the car lacked enough power was when I had 4 people + luggage in the car and had to get on a highway with a very short onramp with traffic going 70 mph. The 320xi still had zip, but not as much as when I drive it alone.

If I could trade in the car today for a different one, I'd probably get the M3. Because if I had a 328, I'd want a 340. If I had a 340, I'd want an M3...

But 99% of the time, the 320 is more than enough and I love it.
I wrote the above post about a year ago... Turns out, I just couldn't abide the 320. I got rid of it in Nov '17 for a 340i MPPSK.

The differences are night and day. The 320 is a bit lighter; the 340 is heavier in the nose. But the 340 has so much more power that the 320 just isn't in the same league. I can have the 340 fully loaded (4 people + luggage) and still pin everyone to their seats when I blast onto an on ramp.

Do I still want an M3? Yes! But the 340 keeps M fever at bay until the new lease is up.

The power difference from the 320 to the 328 is also substantial. So don't be like me: if you will be bothered by that power difference, I would get the 328 or 340.

Agreed. And if budget permits go straight to M3 lol
