Losing 3 psi/day, but trading in at the end of the week

So I have a bit of a dilemma. A few days ago I put a deposit down on a '14 328xi, which should be delivered later this week (trading in a '13 328xi).

I discovered yesterday that my tire has a slow leak—used the soapy water trick and found a small nail in the center of my tread. It's losing 3-4 psi/day.

I definitely don't want to drop the cash for a new tire. Should I try to get it patched? Should I take it to the dealership and explain the situation (since I'll be trading this car in)?

Any advice would be appreciated.

I would just get it plugged for like $10 and call it day.

Just make sure it has air in when you take the car back who's to say when it got the puncture, I'm in a simular situation as my car is being part ex next Tuesday and the low pressure warning came on today, I've put air in it and as long as it stays up I'm not saying anything

I know. What the hell happened to just being honest and responsible.

Karma is a bitch baby. And that bitch will hunt you and your new car down.

In all seriousness, I would just bring it up casually and make mention of it when you turn it in. Then it is on them to fix it. I doubt they would make a big deal out of something so minor. And on the upside, you get to sleep much better at night.

Or just so many reasons you need to be thorough about what you buy. My dealer always rips off the tires and puts 4 new ones on - that's for any used car they sell. Caveat emptor.

I would go to Discount Tire (or similar place). If it can be patched they will do it for free. Better fix it, because if the dealer discovers a problem after you turned in the car they can still bill you, and most likely they will charge you a brand new tire. No reason to run this risk.

Right. Dealers won't plug for liability reasons. Get it done at a tire shop for $10. End of story.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I ended up going to a discount tire store—$20 and two patches later I'm good to go.

I was under the impression that (honest) dealerships replace tires before reselling. especially if its an off lease car.

Plug or patch the tire and it will be fine. Don't just bring it in with a nail in the tire though.
