That, plus the 335 engine gets the mid-range tune as denoted by "M0" at the end, same tune level as the 320i gets.

You have to think there is going to at least be a 20-30 hp bump in the 335i.

Do you think they are going to keep the 335i at 300hp for the THIRD straight engine?

Hey, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. The N55 had been called the best engine in a sub $100k car by respected journalists.

i think it would make sense to bump it up by 20bhp or so... Not that it's going to make a difference one would feel, but just as a marketing thing.

Falar, I feel you. This motor hasn't gone under major changes since forever. The "300 hp" they advertise should be embarrassing, it's so underrated. M-SPORT has a legit point though. Why not market the N55 with a higher output? Maybe because it affects German insurance premiums? Only the brass at BMW knows.

I like that my N55 is "old", it's more reliable this way.

So the LCI will be out by end of the year? Any idea on aesthetics differences?

I would agree, especially since the current N55 can be bumped up to 330 hp with just a tune and no loss in gas mileage. It makes sense that a new engine can and should have at least that as stock, possibly with even better gas mileage.

Whether or not they actually do that, who knows. I was disappointed that the N55 did not receive a HP bump over the E90's N54. The gas mileage improvement I thought was nice, but I am actually getting the same exact mileage that I got in my e90.

There was a huge jump in hp from the E90 330 to the E90 335. I expect more than a 20hp jump. The Z4 35is is putting out 335hp/332 ft-lb torque. I'd think the new 335/435 engine will at least match that.

The N20 will be replaced a year after LCI.

I'll be really surprised if power bumps for the new engines are more than 5-10% compared to N20 and N55.

My guess is they keep the power ratings at 300/300 but utilize more technologies and further increase the efficiency of the new powertrain (maybe 33 mpg).

Truthfully, I don't see the 335i being around for much longer anyway. I believe BMW will do away with 335i moniker fairly soon (if not LCI, then the next car), and resort to

320i
328i
M335i <--- THAT is when you'll get your power bump

Mo' powertrains mo' problems. The n55 is perfect. Just right. It is sad that most people will not fully appreciate that fact until the n55 has been replaced.

Kind of like the N54 - probably the best engine BMW has ever made. Obviously not the most reliable, but it was an absolute monster.

So when does the 335i lci come out?

Lci 3 series Production starts July 2015? Have an 09 328i xdrive and want to upgrade but want wait for the LCI. Does July production mean we can order it earlier? In the states btw

I wonder how reliable the new 320i engine will be? The N20 seems to have been pretty reliable in both 328 and 320 form.
