Glad to hear BMW manuals are smooth. I can't wait to try it out.
S5 to C350, why? That's a huge downgrade.

I think to this day it is still the high water mark.

I've had the change to drive the F30 335i rwd 6 speed the last few days with my Sales Advisor. It was excellent. The shifter, he noted, was actually designed just like the 5 in that it fits perfectly in your hand. I actually prefer it!

That is a pretty huge downgrade IMHO lol. It was an S5 Prestige 6 Speed Manual. Carbon Interior, Red Seats, etc. I miss the aesthetics of owning this car for sure. People would literally yell at me driving down the street telling me how nice my car was.

Hate to say this...but I underestimated how bad the MPG would be on the S5. It stated 14/22 and I was hoping on averaging 16-17 (Since I did mostly City driving at the time). After owning it for less than year, I never really got anything better than 13MPG overall. The only time I got good mileage was the two times I took the car to Vegas. Got around 24-25MPG.

In the C-Class I average 24 overall now. When I take it to Vegas I get about 29-30.

I wouldn't say I couldn't afford the gas payments. It was more like, I didn't want to own a gas guzzler for long period of time. 3 months after getting the C350, I bought a Honda CR-Z EX.

Now I'm looking forward to a manual car next.

It is a feature on the 8AT as well. It has been a feature of the 3 Series since 2005. My E90 325i had it as well. Another part of that overall 'package' includes brake drying.

If the brakes are wet during the drive, it automatically applies the brakes ever so gently to wipe away any water, which may be present. You will never notice it working. Again, introduced in the E9x in 2005.

I had 5MT E39 530i and E46 325i along with E46 M3 6MT. The 335i is the best shifting of the bunch. Good off the line, smooth and precise.

That's really great to know. I really disliked the clunk and rough 1st - 2nd shifts in both my e46 and e90.

I don't mind the paddle-shift 8 sp auto in my f30, but man, I would give up a limb to have it in 6 MT. (edit: if I gave up a limb, I probably wouldn't be able to drive a 6 MT. How ironic.)

Had to make some compromises for the wife to be able to drive this car. Worst compromise ever. But I love her.

I am getting my 6MT F30 next week hopefully. Glad to hear everyone is happy with it. I drove the 8AT but didnt test drive a 6MT as they didnt have one when I went in to buy so ordered it blind based on my experience with the 2006 325i.

Also ordered 335i Msport EB2 in 6spd for ED. It's been quite some time since I've driven a stick shift and also went into it blindly (based on all the great reviews) but pretty confident I can pick it back up in no time. Only fear is roll back on a hill and not being able to engage quickly enough to prevent bumping the car behind me (while parking or pulling out of a tight spot)...seems there's a solution to this anyway.

I see, very nice S5 for sure. Why mpg is so important to you? Is it your only car/daily driver?

Why C350? There is a very nice alternative, F30 I assume you got a very nice lease deal on merc?

I'm a coupe guy. Started the lease Jan 2012. M F30 and Coupe was not available. If a coupe (4 series) was available then I wouldn't even hesitate. Also, not a fan of BMW Coupe interiors especially coming from an S5. The new F30/F32 is totally redesigned inside out which is awesome. Still can't make the jump for a Sedan yet =/

From January 2012 - April 2012, it was my daily driver. I then got a great deal on a CPO Honda CR-Z Ex. I was driving the Mercedes 50% of the time and the Honda 50% of the time on my 2mile commute. Long story short, I bought a new place in November, and rented out my old place. Now my commute is 24+ miles each way. So I drive the Honda Sunday - Thursday exclusively for the most part. Prefer the Mercedes on trips to Vegas and Fri/Sat.

Car MSRP was roughly $47,500. My lease payment is roughly $440 before sales tax with down payment of ~$1600 (which included the 1st month lease).

I miss a manual dearly. I'm never one of those who would complain about driving manual in traffic. The pleasure is definitely greater than the pain (even if you live in LA).

You're worried about not having a shiny new car to replace your RR with, for 7 weeks?
