F30 M Sport discounts

I am currently obtaining quotes for a 320D M Sport in Alpine White, with the following 2 options:

Sports auto gearbox
Sun protection glass

The car's list price including the above is £32,975. However I have negotiated the car down to £29,755, which according to my mathematics is a 9.76% discount off list price. I have no part exchange, so it is a straight cash purchase.

Is this a good deal or is there more discount to be had? Has anyone had a discount to match or beat this?
Your experiences are much appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

Yes it does help - to the tune of £737.
Would you mind telling me where please? If you don't wish to discuss on an open forum you can pm me, but I am not sure where I can view pm's.

That's more than 10%. Don't forget you work from the base price up.

Yeah no problem. Cooper Reading, sales manager there Paul Glister is very helpful. I was offered 10% from Synter Sunningdale too. Where are you based?

Thanks for the info. i am based in Merseyside, but it would be well worth travelling Reading to save £700+.

NISFAN - What do you mean work from the base price up when calculating discounts? Is that without optional extras?

Thats a good discount. Is it only off a 320d? Coopers are only down the M4 from me and I'd be interested if they can knock that off a 330d.

I've just signed on the dotted line for the same options with Coral red leather and the 5 year service pack (and an umbrella!!) and got it for £29,352.95 so definitely deals to be had.

You shouldn't have to travel all the way to Reading to get a similar deal.....once you have a keen target price, you phone the business managers (BM) at more local dealerships and recite the price they need to be at to get the business. Make sure you only speak to the BM, Sales men will just screw up your chance of getting a deal. Be sure to tell them you are in the position of going ahead provided they match/beat the deal. That should see you getting something more local.

Dealers have around a 15% margin on the base price, or transfer price if you like. So 10% off a list of £32,975 is 32975/1.10 = 29,977, which means the discount you have been given is over 10%. Hope that makes sense.

Is it possible to still negotiate a discount if you have a trade in? for example negotiate a deal on the car with the dealer and once that has been agreed then work out a trade in price? I suspect what would happen is that it would all get mixed up together but would be grateful for any advice.

Generally if a dealer thinks you are trading in they will want to lump the two transactions together to give you a cost to change, ultimately in a way this is all that is important to you but they generally try to bluff you into thinking you are getting more fror your trade in by discounting the new.

As I always need to know what deal i am getting the best route is to ask for two figures, firstly a cost for straight purchase of new car and secondly a cost to change. That easily gives you the discounted price of new car and also the true trade in value. The later may shock you as it will sound low but that gives you something to best if you decide to try selling privately.

This part of your statement goes against my experience when dealing with NEW car sales.

A NEW car salesman's KPI's are sales volume, and margin. He has nothing to do with valuations or selling USED cars, so could care less about what your trade in is worth.

The business also wouldn't want to overvalue your trade in, because take this scenario......

.........I force them to give me on paper an extra £5k for my trade in instead of discounting the new car. Do the deal. When the new car comes, reject the car. My old car is no longer available as they have hawked it off at auction, or passed it on to a USED car joint down the road.

Nett result I have just off loaded my banger for £5k more than it is worth at the dealers expense. Walk into rival dealership and negotiate big discount on new motor with my extra £5k.

Oh by the way, if you are buying cash....BMW have a deal on right now.....0% finance for 2 years with 50% deposit. I'm pretty sure the 320D qualifies as my dealer had the 320D M Sport on the demo stand with this banner on it.

Worth chucking half the money into your mortgage for two years

Hi BMdriver,

The dealer is Watford BMW. In fairness they didn't give me market value for my trade-in but somewhere in-between the CAP/Glasses Guide and the market price PLUS I get to drive it until the new car arrives which saves the aggro of having to hire a car and sponge lifts etc! So far they're living up to their good reputation - keen but in no way pushy sales tactics and if you're cottoned-on to the "I need to speak to my manager" chat then it's actually good fun pushing them for more. I'm not saying I got the best deal in the world BUT I did get a deal that I was happy with and that's important to me, especially as it was my first time of buying a brand new car.

Stupid Question from someone keen to return from the darkside... I'm looking to finance the car with BMW (no P/X), can I expect to be able to achieve the same discounts discussed here?

Yes if not more so....BMW dealers get a kick back from selling the finace too.

I know someone that had the money to buy outright, but took out finance to get a better deal, then settled it.

Thanks guys for your help and advice, without a p/x I should be able to capitalise on the large discounts available.

Is it likely that that 50 / 50 offer would extend to other models eg 320i rather than 320d?, seems quite attractive.
