Not if the recently retired BMWNA CEO Jim O'Donnell's words remain true. He recently stated (regarding the 3-series wagon in North America) that "We are not giving up the 3-series wagon because if you give it up, they will go straight to the competition."
BMWNA, these are wise words. Bring this touring in. I don't want an SUV, but I do want a successor to my e34, e46, e39 and e61 tourings. |

I'd be happy with either the diesel or N20 - I just hope they offer it in RWD unlike the last 5-series wagon which was awd only. I have no need for the extra mass/cost/complexity of AWD.

Gimme.... gimmegimmegimme!!!
Diesel form pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease. I absolutely love wagons. I am single w/ no kids, but I do have a 120lb. Rottie mix... Friends think I am crazy for my love of them.. I currently drive a Subaru GT wagon. It suits all my needs. Space, Manual trans, AWD, and of course turbo fun. IF they bring this over in any form of forced induction, I WILL buy one.

They should make it an made to order option for the Wagons if they feel there is no market share. We order our cars already, why not the chassis style/engines too?

Car & Driver have managed to capture the car also.
Interesting here is the light shines through the camouflage showing the shape of the rear quarter light and hoffmeister kick. acknowledgement to Car&Driver.com

Looks like a natural evolution. Good stuff.
I'll take one about 10 years from now. If I'm still in Europe, I'll be ordering a one with a a 4-pot diesel... |

If, and that's a BIG if, these come in model year 2012, I will be ordering one for the wife to replace her 2009. Provided that: it is available with RWD, it is available with some 6 cylinder engine and it gets over 30 mpg on the highway. I think my chances are slim to none. If I want an AWD, turbocharged 4 cylinder wagon I would get her the better-looking Audi A4 Avant. I want RWD and 6 cylinders when I happen to drive it.

You being a wagon owner should know, BMW NA always like to give the 3 series wagon the smalled engine, e46 == 325, e91 == 328 so I would assume if we did get the F31 == new 4 turbo. Hopefully no AWD as standard like the did with the 5 series wagon |

OMG OMG BMW got its brain back from the cleaners!
http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=574026 I'm giddy like a schoolgirl at a Justin Bieber concert. (Yes, I know it's about F11, but a wagon is a wagon is a Touring.) |

Now, more than ever there has to be a market in the US for downsized SAVs (and yes, i think the Touring should be marketed as such). With the X3 bloating up, there isn't a BMW available in the US for that market. Can it really be possible that only Subaru knows how to sell a wagon in the US? I know quite a few people who have BMW money and own Outbacks. |

And in case it's not clear what I mean by "weakest Touring models"... the 328i Touring models have a detuned 230hp inline 6 that's slower and less efficient (17/25mpg for the xDrive) than the X3 xDrive28i (240hp, 19/25mpg). Of course, both get worse mileage than their 300hp 35i brethren, but that's a separate issue--bring on the N20!
With those numbers, I totally get why no one is buying the current Touring model. Throw an N20 in there, emphasize the drivability and efficiency of the Touring model (it really should be more efficient than an SAV if not detuned to encourage SAV sales), and maybe it would have a chance. Of course, BMW could always give us the middle ground--the X1. Or a higher performance 335i/xi wagon. Or both! And "Touring" is seriously boring. Sell the open road, not a ride in a bus. |

A big part of the better gas milage is the 8 speed transmission. My 2007 X3 with the 6 speed auto was rated 17 city while the new one is 19 city all due to the new transmission which will be in the wagon so even without a different engine you would see a nice jump in mpg.

I strongly suggest that all potential F31 owners send a message to BMW NA asking them to bring it here. Who knows if it will help, but it certainly can't hurt. I sent an inquiry yesterday and got the following (canned) response:
