Bmw f30 328i vs 335i

Hello,
I am looking to buy an f30. I have now a 330ci 2004 so i am upgrading. The thing is i am tempted by the 328i for its fuel economy and its performance but on the other hand i dont know if its a good choice to drop off 2 cylinder. So is it worth to bring the 335 or the 328i will do the job??
Pls i need advice from people who test drove the 2 version.
Thanks for ur help.

Test drive both extensively my friend. Then work out what you're happy to pay for a car. These two bits of information will give you a pretty good indication of what you will purchase.

Do yourself a favor; don't read beyond this point and really listen to ghettodefendant's reply before the 328i vs 335i shit storm happens to this post (even though it's in the wrong forum).

This is an over saturated question. Please just do a search of the forum of 328 vs 335.

I currently own both and can assure you either choice you make will be great. Since you are coming from a 330i, the 328i will definitely feel like a huge upgrade in every sense of the word.

BMW has been making 4 cylinder motors long before they made a 6, so this is nothing new and you shouldn't be alarmed or scared of the N20 4 cylinder. The motor has won International engine of the year and has held its spot in the Car And Driver Magazine's 10 best.

The new 4 cylinder in the 328i makes better horsepower, faster 0-60 and gets better fuel economy than the previous generation 6 cylinder found in the e92/e90.

If your budget allows you to get a 335i, its a nice little upgrade, but If I had to choose one and money was a factor, I would go with the 328i and be extremely happy with it.

Well Said. and from a source who owns both. Not just someone who is defending their purchase.

I've owned 3 E36 M3's, an E46 330ci and E46 M3. I have a F30 328i now and I think it's enough 99% of the time, especially with a tune.

I have no idea on the Real World MPG for a 328i...But my 335 is a HOG. I'm averaging 18.9 miles a gallon--in its' defense this is all surface street driving. Seriously my e46 M3 had about the same efficiency.

Coming from a E90 335i to a F30 328i, I was worried I wasn't going to be satisfied. But to be honest I'm very impressed by the n26 engine. You get the best of 2 worlds fuel economy, and power when you want it. Price and Fuel economy where my main focus when it came to my decision. I don't miss the poor fuel econ of the n54, and from what I've read the JB4 for the n20/26 is getting significant gains.

As someone mentioned, test drive both thoroughly and extensively.

Make sure you know all the differences including $$$ between the two models.

Make sure you know all the differences of different lines within each model.

Get the best car that your $$$$ can afford.

If you get the 328, be sure to add the lighting package.

Regardless of which one, the MSPORT package is the way to go.

OOOPS, that is another thread. ;-)

Test drive ==> Decide ==> Negotiate ==> Buy ==> Enjoy the ride ==> Make the payments.

I owned the 328i F30 for 4 months and then moved to the 335i (for other reasons). Both cars are great. The 328i's power is smooth and steady, but it lacks that "biting at the bit, raring to go" feeling you get with the 335i torque monster.

I found that I stayed more relaxed in the 328i. I spent a good bit of time in eco pro mode. I could easily get 30+ MPG and seemed less tense while I 'cruised'.

With the 335i.. I tend to be more tense/aggressive in my driving. The engine notes, exhaust sounds, the torque... The grin I get when I hammer the throttle. But with that...

I now almost exclusively live in sport mode and sport transmission engaged. I get about 14 MPG, if I am lucky, already added a JB stage 1, ordering stage 2, about to get m-performance suspension and wheels, and I am constantly browsing the internet finding/researching ways to get more power.

So for me, the 328 beautifully balances power, handling, comfort and fuel economy into a really good car.. but it is just not as exciting as the 335i to drive.

Go drive both like others have mentioned and pick the one you love the most (or the one you can afford to love the most). Either car is a win!

328 vs 335 debates haven't really gotten out of hand here. It's really a couple of posters over on the 'fest - specifically one person who I think is banned here now.

Agree - both awesome cars, there's no wrong choice here! You MUST drive both before making a decision.

I agree. Actually quite civilized. The comment about the thread deteriorating probably helped things.

I'm actually on the same boat right now. I currently own a 335d with JBD tune and intake, so I've been living the best of both worlds..great power and great gas mileage. Because of this I've been leaning more towards the 328i after reading lately how much power Burger is getting with their stage 2 tune along with the great gas mileage they get..but now I also have the option of getting a 335i for not much more on the monthly payment..the more I think about it the more flustered I get lol..

I had a 2011 328 and I drove both cars several times. I admit it. I drive like an idiot and love the sound of a V6. The MPG in the 335 is not even close to the 328. Just make sure you drive both cars several times and make your own choice. As a retired auto dealer don't make a mistake. I have seen a ton of people settle just to turn around and buy the car they wanted a few months later. So don't make a several $1000 mistake. Best of luck. You could always buy the AH3 and get the power and the MPG.
