I just don't like how the front fascia looks like some dickhead just texted you this thing - [:

it's even worse on the 5ers and I can't think of anything more stupid looking to put on a car's face.

the shark design is way too literal!

Maybe the swapped the headlights on F20 and the new F30 by mistake.

The E90 rearlights was the blandest ever, so this can't be another setback imo, it has to look way better on the F30.
Overall, i think it will stand out more live, than in pictures, and should look way more aggresive.

I hope that BMW will provide the customers with the possibility to buy camo-package if the production version corresponds to the render ))

I hope that "camo-free" parts of the render have nothing common with the production car. Fog lights zone on the camouflated car seems to have better design then the render has (my opinion, real lower part of the bumper is more like an A4 S-line then the F30 render... and it would be good, I think.). I think that the supposed front end on the render is ugly. And mainly this part creates a negative impression from the car.

Also, an image of F30 with fully turned front wheels has been taken as a basis for the render. And even inexact position of the visible part of the right wheel brings the negative details.
Hope that production car will look more like a camouflated F30 then like a render )))

I don´t think the F30 will look like this, but it comes near to it.

the F30/F32;33 will look awesome.
Do you really think BMW will mess up the 3 -series? Never, because it´s their main product! It will not be like the new 1 series(Nevertheless, the old 1-series is also ugly like the new)

best regards

That front end looks sad. Those hood lines look horrible and the side crease isn't much better. It's amazing how much prettier the 5 Series is. The F10 is gorgeous and the F30 is ugly, plain and simple.

I've had six 3 series so far and based on what I'm seeing it won't be seven, unless the coupe's front looks a lot different. Maybe it's time to move up to a 5, after all the kids are getting bigger

For anyone who thinks it is bland, I challenge them to name one BMW that in base form doesn't look a little bland. This is not a render of an M3, or even an M sport for crying out loud lol. Since when has a 320d looked awesome?

I think this render is spot-on, except for one thing:

The kidney grills need to be about an inch taller. In other words, the very front of the car won't quite be so pointed, rather a bit more upright. You can see this styling in the F10, as well as the mules.

I hope BMW doesn't just take these negative comments as "normal transition responses."

If this rendering is at all close to being accurate, the design is going to be BLAND, BLAND, BLAND.

It's NOT going to grow on anyone and will go down in design history as a very DULL period for BMW.

Point taken, but shouldn't the BMW design team hold themselves to a higher standard? Shouldn't we hold them to a higher standard?

The auto industry is becoming increasingly competitive. Bland should not be an acceptable standard in today's world. I don't see Mercedes Benz or Audi resting on their laurels.

I dont like that design so much. The front should be more aggressive. Here is another rendering picture of F30 from a swedish car magazine "Teknikens Värld" http://www.teknikensvarld.se/number/2011/12/index.xml

If this is indeed representative of the front, I like the 5 series front way better. Seems too "squished" as stated by many others. I'm sure it will look better in person either way.

I think it looks pretty good. At least it not so decorated as the F20.

I wish BMW had a little more Bauhaus philosophy, that form follows functoin. Decoration with chrome and lines going here and there just ruins the design.

Look at this SR-71 shaped in the 60'ies by engineers and not designers. Every detail has a purpose. Just perfect. Nobody said "let it look like a shark" when they went to the drawing board.

Considering BMW's design trend, the headlights are TOO SMALL and so is the grill. Both elements do not relate [to each other] and are out of proportion. With that being said the render maybe close... and IMO does not meet expectation regarding a new generation of the 3 series. Here's hopping the F32 will generate a bit more excitement.

I think that BMW should go to a retro styling theme back from the 80's. For example. In the 80's the headlights looks exposed and laid on top of horizontal black looking grills that met up with the sides of the grill. BMW should have tried to make the headlights a little larger under a plastic cover that extends all the way to the sides of the kidney grills to break up the bumper space inbetween. Wish some of the designers would think of something like this. Grrrrrr!!!!!!

+1

thats exactly what I was about to say...
when the e46 first came out i remember looking at the 323i in base trim and thinking wow thats bland, but the VERY same car my friend bought, but just in m-sport trim 330i and i was blown away with how much better it looked.
then when the e90 came out, ppl didn't like the proportions compared to the e46.
it's cyclical, in time it'll grow on us, in sport trim it'll look good. BMW has consistently kept the 3 somewhat conservative (Bangle did the same thing) b/c they want to keep the styling consistently evolutionary.

Plus so long as it still drives like the benchmark of the category, i'm willing to live with a few styling negatives.
My fiance has a lexus IS, and it looks very aggressive (althought kind of bulbous), is newer, has low miles, but 100 times out of 100 i'd rather drive my 06 330i with 98k miles lol.

if you take a look at the new A4. it doesn't look very aggressive unless in S4 trim and with LEDs on. yet ppl think it's a fairly pretty sedan.

I really liked that 80's icon, the E30, despite it's boxy exteriors, there was a certain style and attractiveness to it. It just looked right. But about going retro, I'm afraid it ain't going to happen for BMW. The competition ain't going retro, and the boxy lines will just look out of place today. So realistically, the chance of retro style is pretty low. I think BMW should concentrate on getting the proportions right first. For instance, that F20 headlights just look out-of-place. I can't comment on the F30 since it's not fully revealed, but I think BMW should really focus on making sure the whole design looks right, from all angles.

To tell the truth...

I love BMW, but this new 3-Series.... I do not like haha. E90/E92 was the best...
