Ha ha I can't admit to being old enough to have seen the 3.0 CSL

...but seriously the M1 was the first racing car that sparked my interest. I watched it race where the first 3 cars were all M1's, and by a good margin on the 4th placed car. Sounded really good, but then a few years later the Audi 500 Quattro came out and is still probably the best 'engine' sound I have ever heard.

I'll change the record when diesel engines sound like the video....

One thing I'll guarantee you, in twenty years time, we won't be listening to the sound of BMWs straight six diesel and commenting on how fine it sounds!

Of course we wont. We will be watching videos of the F30 with an underpowered 4cyl turbo petrol, which sounds like a diesel.

Muppet.

It's bit bad but it does not compare to 'proper engines' and racing.

Well, thanks for running a thread that had nothing to do with:

Petrol vs Diesel

X Drive vs S Drive

You have succeed in winding me up, and making yourself look like a moron.

Look forward to your next contribution to the forum.

I know, I am an old F**t..

September 1977, Tourist Trophy at Silverstone. It was won by Dieter Quester and Tom Walkinshaw in the green Gösser Beer Group 2 3.0 CSL...

Then, 8/9 months later, the 1978 World Championship of Makes, 6 hours, Silverstone, with Ronnie Peterson and Hans Stuck in the Group 5 320 Turbo (it got trounced by Ickx/Mass in the Moby Dick 935/78).

The 2.0 litre class was dominated by normally aspirated Group 5 320's.

I was also at Silverstone a few years later when they ran the BMW turbo in the Brabham for the first time in qualy...

Can you recall where/what that was..?

The Procar races were all M1's to (roughly) Group 4 spec... and I recall M3's running in World Championship races, in both Group 4 and Group 5 trims, but I cannot recall them ever winning or (for that matter) three ever running together...

I think, as far as engine sounds go, the 333 SP Ferrari's were pretty cool in the late 90's.. The BMW V12 LMR's were special... Also, the M3 GTR's that ran in ALMS in '01 were fantastic.. Flat crank racing V8's... Ooooh...

Highly unlikely!!

I understand your insecurities....

Try this for a 4 cylinder turbo petrol motor.

Nice noise, no?

Very cool, mesmerising in fact, and far more in keeping with the original post. It makes a mockery of nearly everything else on the track.
I love Capri's, and sometimes think I was born in the wrong era..
