Question regarding pre-2014 ConnectedDrive

Hey everyone,

As most people know, the connectedDrive/BMW Assist options were disabled for cars prior to 2014 due to the change from 2G/3G networks. I have a 2012 F30 328i that previously had the full setup to activate these features, but I knew I couldn't. However, not too long ago I had my Telematics Combox replaced at the dealer with the newest part revision 84-10-9-257-153. Does this telematics combox include updated components to support network services available on 2014+ vehicles, in turn allowing me to reactivate the service to my vehicle? The reason I ask is because i'm aware BMW provided a retrofitting option for certain subscribers to maintain network availability on their vehicles.

Thanks,
Chris

I contacted: customercare@bmwassist.com They told me what services would be available if I had the newer combox installed. You will get the most correct and specific answer from them. In short they told me I would have all the services that were available on my 2013 at the time of deactivation, nothing new or additional. I haven't decided if I should bother upgrading or just go with an aftermarket solution.

BMW prices 2012-2013 cars differently for these services than 2014+ vehicles and rapes you on them.

The refused to connect 2012-2013 vehicles on the Black Friday pricing as well.

Perfect, that gives me hope. I may try and contact them and reactivate the services soon. I'll post a response if it is successful!

Hm, good to know...Kind of annoying. I can't believe BMW would overcharge for anything

Thanks man!
