You can have your factory unit flashed to ID5 but many of the features will not work as the ID4 NBT EVO hardware was not meant to be used on ID5.

Also, maps on the nav system will be an issue since the FSC calculation scheme is very different on ID5.

I currently have the only fully working ID5 retrofit in my vehicle but this involves changing the screen and head unit to the proper hardware.

If I buy one of those NBT Evo ID5 head unit/screen/knob from ebay (I believe it's from Latvia), is it just a matter of coding to get it to work on a vehicle that originally has an NBT Evo ID4?

You'll need a proper set of FSC codes issued to your VIN (or custom made) and you will need the maps switched over to North America. This will all have to be done on a bench as there is a security feature called trusted VIN which will brick the head unit if it detects that it is being installed into another vehicle.

Keep in mind that you will lose HD and Satellite Radio as European units are not equipped with the SDARS module.

Car is a 2015 340i. (Believe it was one of the first B58 produced cars.)

Read in another thread, if map options show EVO map, then its the NBT Evo, in which case I have the NBT Evo.

2015 = HU_NBT
2016 = HU_NBT2 with ID4++
2016 = HU_NBT2 with ID5

But you can easily tell looking at screen. If you have tiles, you have ID5.

if your car does not have nbt evo, there is NO chance of an upgrade to ID5 or 6. Even the NBT evo with ID4 are still in the air as to whether their systems will be update to ID5 (officially) or not. BMW is not in the business of bringing new software to old platforms.

if you go to maps and go to options and find software version then you will see if you have NBT evo or not. I believe you do sir. on of the main characteristics of NBT evo is OTA map updates.

It is not up in the air.

H-H2 with ID4++ have 2GB of ram. Upgrading to ID5 results in frequent reboots.
