Question 19" wheels question for the F31 wagon m sport...

i'm adding the F10 5 series 19" staggered (8.5 & 9") 351m wheels to my F31 wagon... (retain the same overall look but with an upsize)

~ what tire size will be need to retain the same overall diameter of the factory 18" x 8" 400m (225/45/18) wheels currently on my car?

235/40/19 (8.5") front & 265/35/19 (9") rear?

note: i'm not looking for a fluffy tire nor a banana peal (thoughts)?

i also understand i may need a 10 mm spacer for the rear 351m wheels (offset) to make things flush.

i'm also installing kw1 coil overs (a bit more wheel well height) than as the current h&r sports shown in the pics below.

thanks again for any insight.

I copy my answer from another thread:

Second closest to stock size and with wider tires:
F: 8.5x19" ET33, 245/35-19 (1% shorter than stock)
R: 9x19" ET44, 275/30-19 (1.5% shorter than stock)
Don't think you will need rear spacers, at least not if you choose the wider 245/275 tire combo.

Test fit the new wheels and tires first and then make decision regarding spacers.

~ thanks for your quick reply!

another question:

~ which tire sizes that you posted will provide the shorter side wall?

guessing these:
F: 8.5x19 ET33, 225/40-19 (same diameter)
R: 9x19" ET44, 255/35-19 (same diameter)

i also don't want the tires to look stretched on an over sized rim, any additional thoughts?

Since you don't want stretched tires, you shouldn't choose 225/255. A 225 front tire will look stretched on 8.5" wide wheels.

I would then recommend your own suggestion in the first post, slightly wider tires with slightly higher side walls:
F: 8.5x19" ET33, 235/40-19 (1% taller than stock)
R: 9x19" ET 44, 265/35-19 (1% taller than stock)

One more alternative, but not if your car is xDrive (since the front and rear rolling circumference isn't matched):
F: 8.5x19" ET33, 245/35-19 (1% shorter than stock)
R: 9x19" ET 44, 255/35-19 (stock diameter)

The advantage with this combination is that the width difference for the tires and the wheels is both 1/2", i.e. the tires will fit very similiar on the front and rear wheels.

Approximate side wall heights:
245/35 275/30 - 85mm
225/40 255/35 - 90mm
235/40 265/35 - 94mm

Easy to calculate, follow this exampel for 225/40-19. 225 is tire width in mm and 40 is side wall height in percentage of the width. The side wall height is calculated as 225 x 0.4 = 90mm.

~ my car is an xDrive.

so this is the consensus to accomplish the look i'm trying to achieve while keeping the overall circumference nearly the same?

F: 8.5x19" ET33, 235/40-19 (1% taller than stock)
R: 9x19" ET 44, 265/35-19 (1% taller than stock)

your input is greatly appreciated!

Given that its xDrive, you should be very careful mixing tyre sizes. The OE sizes for the F31 with the 19" wheel option are the 225/40R19 and 255/35R19, as you have mentioned above. I would stick with these to be honest.

My Dad's F10 with 245 front tyres used to tramline terribly, given that the F31 is a lighter car, I wouldn't be wanting to increase the width of the front tyres without good reason.

225 tyre should be absolutely fine on an 8.5J rim.

out of curiosity, which wheels are you seeing in these sizes and offsets?

~ very limited selection in a name brand 'all-season' tire in the above sizes. looking for something with some longevity.
