Production completed, now what?

Just called in and production completed today and it says "waiting to be released to carrier".

What does that mean and how long until a vessel is assigned? Its out of Germany going to Florida. Thanks.

it'll be at port within 2-3 days max, if it finished production today. From then on its a waiting game. My 435 was at port 3 days before getting on a ship, my F30 335 last Sept was at port 17 days before gettting a ship, my E92 335 was at port 2 days before getting a ship----so as you can see it really all depends. Going to FL, you are likely looking at a ship with a stop in Brunswick GA---which is good bc theres a chance you would get a KLine ship instead of a WW ship--Klines are about 5 days faster to Brunswick than WW is.

in my experience, no way to really know that you are on a ship until usually the day AFTER it leaves--at this time your CA, and the reps at BMW will have the info for you.

If production finished on either 11/25 or 11/26, bmw rep or dealer would not have an assigned vessel yet, correct? Maybe a few more days? Thanks.

correct---if you just finished production on 11/25 or 26, then you will be at port probably by 27th or 28th. My bet is that you will be on either the Tombara leaving on 12/2, the Freedom on 12/4 or-the Columbia Highway leaving the 4th---I'd hope for the last one--as it gets here the fastest!

and it's probably realistic to look at delivery before the new year if thats the case.

I'll need to talk to you about tracking once I get the vessel name. Thanks and happy Thanksgiving!

I agree w/ SP that you'll have it before year end.
One thing to keep in mind is the # of options that you added as Port Installed items.
Mine was on the same ship as SP. He received his on 11/16, I received mine on 11/23. Granted, he's in Georgia and I'm in TX, Truck delivery took a day or two. The diff is that I had 4 port installed items.
Good luck on the wait. SP, I'll post some pics on the Bishu Highway thread sometime during Thanksgiving weekend. Been cold and wet here, so haven't had a chance to wash the car.

My 435i took about 3-4 days awaiting carrier to port, took 2-3 days to transport to port.... 2 days ago my status changed again to....at port awaiting a vessel. There is no further shipping information available at this time.....

Why in the world would they add items while sitting at the port and not during production??

there's a whole menu of items that you can get port installed. there's a thread somewhere in here that shows them to you, along with prices.
I got the performance brakes, painted spoiler, black kidney grills and performance exhaust.
If you didn't get any, I think that you would've known about the menu of items, your car should have a pretty quick turnaround at the port.

I got prem, tech, lighting, dhp. I didn't get any performance stuff like brakes, exhaust, or any spoilers. I assume then I don't have any port added options? Thanks.

Port where? In Germany or the U.S? if in Germany--its at port waiting for a ship (though if its been 2 weeks, my bet is that you are on a ship already--or will be VERY soon)

PIA - are done at the ports here in the U.S

if at port in the U.S--maybe an issue?

Maybe you are on the Bishu Highway that leaves today---it arrives in Baltimore though, not NY--

do you know what port your car is coming to?...on your VIR that your CA might have sent you with options /etc on it...it should say port location on top right. That will help narrow your choices down..but really, if you have been at port 2 weeks, I think you're on a boat that recently left, or about to be on one.

it's a better wait compared to not knowing when your car is gonna be on a ship
at least this one we know when is it gonna arrive hehe.

I was REALLY hoping it would be ready at the dealer by 12/15 as I am going to Giants Seahawks game so was trying to pick it up then.
4 days from arrival at port to ready at dealer might be pushing it though.
