Rear spoiler and snow?
Hi guys,
We had a large snowstorm here in montreal since 48 hrs. Tell me, is snow and ice on the car causing problems with the rear spoiler when it retracts? |

Good question, I have not had any issues with mine in the two storms that we had so far. On the other hand I am getting fed up with the sensor for the adaptive cruise control needing to be cleaned all the time (snow I understand, but even on dry roads the winter dust plays havoc with the thing).

Just clear the snow off it before you leave. If its snowing you shouldn't be hitting any speed that would make it deploy anyway, so no worries about snow getting under it.

error code
I just got the error code when the spoiler got stuck with snow and ice...
The error message said: "the spoiler is stuck, don't exceed speeds over 130 km/h..." /steffe |

Snow won't bother it, but what will happen is that after you park in the sun snow on the rear window and/or deck will melt into the wells under the spoiler, where it will freeze when the sun goes down. That can lock the spoiler in place, or if it does deploy keep it from fully retracting again.

I've just been leaving it down when theres snow or ice. Living in the city, I never get above the speed its required anyway. Seen a few people leave it up, but that freaks me out since all the mechanicals are exposed.

Leaving it up manually or driving at low speeds in town with spoiler up? My dealer called the respective switch the "vanity switch", his words not mine. :-)
Having said which, rarely ever does one follow one's own car (with spoiler up). When I recently on a motorway followed another 3 GT, I noticed that the spoiler in UP position is barely noticeable. Which I find nice, I want the function, not the looks. |
