2012 leftover (335i)

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Gents. Have a 2012 335 myself. However, when I'm reading these boards and viewing the comments about options I'm w/o -- it effects my judgement and temptation. I'm now interested in getting the car w/ the options I want. Any road, I found a 2012 leftover w/ the options I desire at an MSRP of 54k. Looking for feedback on what I should offer on a static car.

Thanks.

I bought a 2012 leftover back in early Feb. The car is BSM and fully loaded with every avail option. Car sticker at 58,795. Car was brand new on the showroom floor with 0 miles. I paid 47,800.00. Which I felt was a great deal. I was lucky enough to find a car that if I had ordered it, I would have ordered it exactly as I got this one.

OP, IMO $10K off MSRP at minimum. And this would only be a recommendation for someone who really wants a 335i but affordability is an issue. Otherwise get a MY13. Car will be 2 years old starting late August as MY14 cars hit showrooms so consider real world resale value.

Have you test driven this car? I highly recommend it. Could have bad tires and steering vibration that should be addressed before taking delivery. Spent a lot of time driving between 40-55MPH and check for vibration.

Reduced resale value is accounted for in the reduced sale price, so that's a wash. Warranty clock starts at retail delivery so it'll have a year more warranty (calendar) than anyone else.

Things to take into consideration with a long-term leftover - the dealer is paying floorplan for this unit every month so they should definitely be motivated to move it. You might get a little more if you agree to finance through them since they get a little kicker. Then you can refi elsewhere if you're able to get better rates.

OP has not given us a dealer offer or discounted price. He told us MSRP and that he offered $9K discount.

Fact is the car is 2 years old in a couple months. Of course car is titled new and warranty begins from in service date. Unfortunately the resale market only looks at year, model, options, mileage and condition. In service date is not typically considered. Unless his plan is to private party sell and find the 5% crowd that care. I prefer to focus on the 95% real world.

As a customer he should not care about dealer floorplanning, etc. That's the dealers problem. To the dealer this car is a loss regardless. The CA that moves it will likely get a huge pat on the back.

That wouldn't happen to be the Melbourne Red 335i at Braman BMW would it? haha I was also looking at that guy as an option! It really does have everything. Im just curious though how much is it going to cost you to get out of your current 2012? Personally, I couldn't justify paying off the lease less than a year into it just for a few more options. But thats just me haha.

I would pass too. That is almost insulting. The offer is high and they will sit with it at that price. keep searching they are out there.

Good decision. You can get a MY13 for around that price, maybe less!

That car needs a sucker, someone who MUST have a car today, or may end up as a Manager demo or service loaner.

They really have gone down in price. I got my 2011 M3 E90 Sedan for $40k w/39,000 miles on the clock. Not sure if that is considered "high mileage".

The concern I would have is that in 59 days from today that car is considered 2 years old as 7/1/13 production starts the 2014 model year.

I was simply providing fodder for him to use in his negotiations. It is highly likely he'll be able to get a substantial discount off of MSRP. That discount will offset the reduction in resale value. Understanding the concept of floorplan is also a tool that one can use against the dealer. If you're stuck in a position of few dollars apart you just need to remind them they're sitting on old stock and that they have an interest payment coming up...works every time.

Unfortunately in this case the dealer doesn't want to part with the car so they offered OP a lousy deal.

I didn't read the update to the thread.

Though I must ask, who gives up after a single counter? Every dealer would do this to test the waters and vet out tire kickers. Hell, I do it myself. Go back with your own counter. A second contact will likely start real negotiations. It's worth a shot if you can get a killer deal. On something that's been on the ground for that long I'd bypass the sales team and go straight to the sales manager or GM. They're the ones that really want it gone. Most guys on the floor don't fully understand the skin the dealer has in it.
