I haven't found anything yet with the powertrain of the Bimmers though. The turbo 4 or turbo 6 and the 8 speed auto are impossibly good. Maybe not for hardcore performance driver bros or whatever but for a daily driver, its magic. Thats what I drive Bimmers for. Oh and the seats.. The sport seats in this and my last 3 are ridiculously good. I once did a 10 hour straight drive from Redding CA to L.A. in my 320 with the sport package with literally zero fatigue. I have this used E90 328i sedan build that literally does not exist in the universe but if it did, I would buy that because it could be had for like $10k with about 70k miles on it. Sedan, RWD, saddle brown interior, non sport package, no iDrive, heated seats, xenons. Ive seen a build like this on a YouTube video once and have been searching for it forever. Every used e90 328 out there has the shit halogens and if it doesn't its loaded with that horrid iDrive system. I would take the old fashioned no idrive, like ten grand, the rate I drive (10-12k miles per year) I could get like 3-4 good years out of it.

2008 BMW 335i (e90) - HPFP issue. Engine cut out on the freeway, not fun. Car was only 6 months old. No other issues after that. Great car. 2008 BMW M6 (e63) - Bought used. Had about 45k on it when something failed, flooding the engine with fuel. Fortunately it was under warranty so everything was fixed. Not cool though. 2014 BMW 335i (F30) (current car) - Bought this one new as a custom build. It has been nothing but trouble. Charge pipe failure 3 times. Twice while accelerating on the freeway. Also had an oil leak which was not fixed properly (took it in 3 times total). Leaked oil damaged one of the belts, causing it to weaken and snap while driving, completely losing power. BMW ended up replacing pretty much all the hoses/gaskets and a bunch of other minor things (again around 45k miles). Got an extended warranty on this one so I have a couple more years on it. My wife got a 2013 Lexus RX to replace her X5 (ironically two weeks after my 335i was delivered). She has had zero issues with it so far, compared to mine having to be towed once or twice a year. If you get the upgrades on the Lexus, the interior is far and above all but the best BMW has to offer. The seats are comparable to the luxury seats I had on my M6, so comfortable, and have heating and cooling. Drives pretty great as well. As I and others have mentioned though, the computer system is absolutely horrendous. Last edited by Mobster1983; 03-12-2018 at 01:13 AM.. |

I don't really agree on the Lexus front with regard to the seats or interior quality. We also have an RX Our BMW seats have been better than the Lexus seats (that's changed on the new Lexus products, those seats are fabulous) and the interiors generally lack organic materials and this is true on most (but not all) Lexus products. Our Lexus has been rock solid though and in addition to being rock solid the dealership experience obliterates BMW.

Around 2 years left on my 340xi lease. Looking to lease a G80 M3 if it is available by then, M340i if not and if it really surprises me. Also thinking about a CPO F-Type Coupe R or a CPO Porsche Macan Turbo.

Most German premium cars are ridiculously expensive here. I paid the equivalent of USD70K for mine. Despite a very good experience, I don't think I will do it again ... certain not if I stick to buying new.
I await the next generation Subaru WRX or BR-Z/GT86. I will only consider another BMW, most likely the next gen 2-series, if it is priced similarly to the Japanese cars which goes for around USD$35K here. I won't need to think too hard about this for another 3-4 years.

My preferences are changing and quickly: BMW might keep me in with the new 5-er, possibly the G20 2nd MY. Not sure what it is but there's something about MB and Audi that doesn't sit well with me nor do their designs attract me. If I was forced to choose one car right this second, I would end up in a 530e and be done with it. Sucks that I'd lose the all-digital dash/instrument cluster though. (hate that hybrid)
