Big brother is watching...

I'm at Heathrow and just got a text message from O2 reminding about my travel bolt on package. I thought to myself that's good timing! And then realise they did the same last week when at Luton airport.

So clearly no coincidence!

Wondering how they do it? Presumably just detecting when your signal is going via a cell at the airport?

Anyone have other examples of how our movements are being monitored and tracked?

When I constantly get messages on my phone telling me the travel time to/from work and home.
No idea how it knows which is which, it must just figure it out by the time I spend at each place

I see other folks get really het up about personal privacy and wonder if I should be more bothered, but as yet I'm not all that fussed. Which must be down to the fact I really don't have anything to hide!

I'd be interested to know some other examples though!

Mines does this based on what's in my diary. Waze does this a lot in particular.

Wish I could feel be out how to turn those Waze notifications off without also disabling notifications that I'd like to receive when I'm using it for navigation.

Being told how long it'll take to get home when I'm not ready to leave the office and I'm not going home is becoming g an annoyance.

Indeed! The sheer amount of publicly available information about someone is comical. I saw a demo of a "research" application and it told us Wayne Rooneys house address, his sister's address and her mobile number plus alot all about other rooney members if that floats your boat, all from available info if you know where to look.

Let alone what the Government can track down...

It's actually quite scarey just how trackable people are.

Also if you look at apps on your mobile and exactly what access permissions they have.

My biggest spying thing is TripIt, it's linked to my calendar, gps, travel bookings etc.

It tries to entice me in to various pubs etc wherever I travel, bloody software

Did I not mention the "bug" I placed in your car and the secret CCTV that was installed in your house before you moved in? The bathroom feed is very entertaining.......
No wonder you've ended up in the Priory... no one can watch that and remain unscathed...

Now I'm not sure if this is an urban myth but have heard ( ready to get flamed) that if you're in the vicinity of an airport and start talking about bombs etc your call will be flagged and you're likely to get stopped.

Like I said that's what I've heard all we need is a willing volunteer to try it out ...

How cool would it be to work at somewhere like GCHQ. Would be really interesting but quite scary at times too I guess. The amount of shit that goes on that you never get to know about doesn't bear thinking about.
