Recently purchased a 2014 335i (build 08/2013)
The feel is definitely tighter in sport mode but the resistance is all over the place at higher speeds (40+). Couple of things I'm noticing:
1) when the wheel is centered, there is no resistance moving the wheel left or right about 1/2 an inch in each direction. Wheels are turning as expected, but the lack of resistance until a certain point throws me off. Is this normal?
2) when turning (again at 40+) there is no consistency in the resistance. In other words it's not smooth, almost like a dial, whether I'm turning into or out of a turn.

Anyone else experience this? Normal?

Thanks!!

Just test drove a 340i M Perf Steering, VSS. it is TONS better, and the base suspension setup so much better. I.E. no noticeable understeer powering at 100km/hr through a 65km/hr flat ramp... Caveat: BMW agent, 170lbs+, was with me so this planted the car more. And light alloys vs my winters. Cannot yet comment about Adaptive M, and my 335i also is on Winters right now.

but clearly, after test driving the 340i, it confirmed how wobbly and putrid the prev gen steering was. A wobble. Even in Sports +, my steering BARELY tightens. On the 340i it is very close to e90... Stiff, predictable and more hands-to-eye.

if there was a 2,000$ option to replace the 335i's, I would!!

This is the reason that I sold my 2013 335i M Sport. While our M4 was being serviced, we had a 340i loaner and I could not believe the improvement. If not for the poor handling of our 2013 M Sport, I would have I never sold it. Too bad that BMW got it so wrong before they got it right with the 340i.

I don't have the VSS, and I feel I have to turn the steering too much for slow speed corners.

Is it possible to update preLCI N55 car software with latest B58?

What is latest n55 software? Does base model gets same sw as m sport, so if sport auto transmission and sport+ options are coded, steering and transmission should be same as m sport if suspension hardware is upgraded on base model?

Does it feel notchy, like you can turn a small amount and then you meet resistance? Like the front wheels are in a shallow rut and you have to turn the wheel a bit more to make the wheels actually turn?

weird, I have the 2016 LCI 328i and the steering feel doesn't seem any better than my 2014, but I guess thats the most current version since '14? either way, Ive never hated it but it definitely doesn't touch hydraulic steering of e90 era and previous in terms of feel. But I would argue its more livable for a daily driver. Sport/Sport+ has always felt overly and artificially boosted to me... 'fake' heavy

You can check the car's VCM. Check out this thread: http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=836350

This question would fit better in the coding section

This thread makes me curious to go test drive a new one.

After putting M Performance Suspension on my F30 it felt pretty damn good, but I was still missing the organic feel of older BMWs, so I went and traded in for an E92. This was back in 2015. Two years since then, I still love the E92 steering feel, though everything else about the car is starting to feel really dated.

I had reconciled myself to the fact that steering feel is gone forever with all cars moving to electric. But this thread makes me curious to go try out a new F30.

I had an LCI 340i for 2 weeks as a loaner...it was marginally improved over my 2014 335i. If you HAD an F30 with the M Performance suspension, and you're now driving an E92, by all means, do NOT expect a revelation. Here's hoping the new G20 3-series will right the ship, but if the new 5 is any indication, we're all in for a big letdown.
