Letz be honest, european delivery is equivalent to torture
How do people order a car, wait almost a month for it to be made, fly out to Germany... get to drive it a bit... then wait a whole month again to be reunited.
Sounds like BMW's version of being blue balled.. That has to be the biggest tease ever. Edit: I could never do the ED myself, because it just is too much of a tease for me... but I do have a lot of respect for the folks that can. Last edited by arian19; 09-23-2015 at 01:53 PM.. |

You usually know ahead of time that you're going to be getting a car. Nobody wakes up and things omg i need a car right now. This gives you a discounted excuse for vacay.

Nobody is forcing you to do ED.
Just get your car from the dealership like most everyone else... Enjoy

Well, there is something to be said for taking delivery and 20 minutes later being on the Autobahn doing 100 mph or more (legally) depending on how you like to do your break-in procedure.
If you've ever driven the some of the roads "over there", you might be singing a different tune. I think our wait would have been 6 weeks if we did PCD on top of ED. But, like you said, the wife wanted her car back. Last edited by G30 B58; 09-22-2015 at 08:57 PM.. |

Waited for months for the Golf R to arrive, then waited many more months for a manual Golf R to arrive, only to order a BMW for ED to take place in 3 months. And to top it off I'll wait for 2,5 months after that to do a PCD. Then I'll know if it was all worth the wait. It's a good thing I like my current ride as much as when I bought it in 2007. Would almost get rid of the 2011 TDI instead, if I could find any takers. Anyone?

Leave them youth and their instant noodles and gratifications...
Later in life, They will eventually understand our version of YOLO and being able to drive on the Green Hell or/and Stelvio Pass, Tuscany and the Monaco etc....

Stelvio Pass and Splugen Pass.
While those aren't my pics, we did drive both of those while on ED. These pics are mine. DSC_9781 by jkush111, on Flickr DSC_9538 by jkush111, on Flickr Last edited by G30 B58; 09-23-2015 at 07:29 AM.. |

With Suzie, long blonde hair, perfect butt and high heels, being just down the street and very willing is what changed everyone's mind on why wait.

Because it's a pretty incredible experience, and one that you'll likely never forget. Some people buy their car off a dealer's lot, some custom order. That cool and all, but I picked mine up direct from the factory and drove it on the roads it was born, bred, and refined on. It's really not much worse than doing a regular custom order and picking up in the states. I was shocked you actually get a discount to pick it up in Munich. I figured you'd have to pay extra. Not everyone has the time to do it and some just don't want to. To each their own, but for me, it was a no brainer to do an ED. Yes, I see other's on here who already have their 340's at home and wish I had mine here already, but getting to drive mine in Europe made it well worth the extra wait.

Agree. And in addition to the gorgeous mountain roads, the amazing food, I will toss this out there. It's not just about the CAR......it's about the experience. We don't buy these cars because we want a CAR, any bland Honda or Toyota would suffice for that. If you just want a CAR right now, grab a Camry, I am sure the dealer has a million gray ones ready to go. I know OP's point, and not suggesting they go get a Camry, LOL, just making a counter-point. I buy cars to go for drives, to experience not only gorgeous scenery and experiences but the thrill of the drive as well. While there are certainly epic roads and driving experiences here in the States, there are locations and experiences to be had in Europe that you can not replicate here. The torture isn't waiting for your car......the torture is waiting for your next chance to do another ED.........

You guys, this looks amazing! Personally, I wouldn't do an ED myself unless it was a car truly worth driving in it's homeland (at least a '35i or an M car). At my age and income, I don't see my next Bimmer to be the M3/M4 I've always wanted, so for the next I'm hoping to do the PCD. After that, I'll aim for the ED
