My salesman today told me he is starting to hear a lot of questions from 3 series customers on this vibration.

And they will hear more and more about it. I don't talk to the dealer anymore as they have nothing to do, but I talk to BMWNA. After so many calls with them, I never get an answer. They just keep going in circles.

They have agreed to buy mine back at full paid price if I trade on another BMW. So now I have to pick between a 1 or 5 since every 3 I have driven vibrates. I'm sure there are some that don't but every one I drove did.

I am in the same boat. They will get back to me tomorrow on a car swap. I can't get a 1 series. My only option will be 5 series. Now the question is: how would they treat the price difference between the 2 cars? any idea?

Theres no way it should be like this. In any brand new car any driving issues like this is grounds for taking it straight back and demanding a replacement vehicle while the issue is compeltely removed.

I had a similar issue in my AWD mazdaspeed 6. At about 100-110 km/hr there would be a noticible vibration that would go away above or below those speeds.

They replaced the $7k diff and that reduced it greatly. But it was still there. Seemed to be a fundamental imbalance. Either way - dont let it go till the issue is completely gone.

Good luck.

Yes I am looking at a 5 also. The dealer is basically treating it as a trade. They are selling their's at invoice minus the $1500 option allowance. And I am getting the full price I paid for the 3 as trade. Still I have to buy a quite a bit more expensive car to get out.

Make sure you test drive the 5 series that you are going to buy, some 5 series still have the vibration problem between 60-70 MPH. The problem has been reduced since 2011, but some 5 series still have some vibration.

Thanks, I already have and did in fact notice a couple with a vibration around 70. Those were crossed off my list.

My dealer just informed me BMW is working on new software for the steering that should become available still later this month
Let's see what that brings.

For completeness, I'm running the standard steering
So no Servotronic or variable sport steering

Have the vibration as early as from 70Kph onward.
The vibration is rather minimal but very annoying for highway cruising
