Is it possible to lock car with engine running

When I had my E46 M3 and traveled with my dog, I would always bring 2 sets of keys in case I needed a bio break. If was hot outside I could lock her in and keep the air on.

Can we do this with the F30?

You should be able to if you have Comfort Access. I've done it in my E90. It'll give you a warning on iDrive the key is missing.

I do have it. So I don't need two keys--just close door and touch handle?

I don't have comfort access but I can still do this. I just start the car, then get out and lock the doors via the key fob.

I don't think this works if you have start-stop though -- my ActiveHybrid 3 turns itself off when I get out, if the engine is in the READY position. I think this is a dummy feature for people who forget to turn off their cars because it's silent.

I presume this behavior also carries over to non-hybrid start-stop.

I will try it tonight when I get home.

Exactly. All new model BMW's work this way now. All comfort access gets you is the lock/unlock via door handle instead of having to push the key fob (and the hands free trunk release). But all newer models no longer need or even have a hole to put the key in the ignition

Yea I love leaving the engine running and locking it while I run into the gas station or liquor store. Hate starting and stopping for quick stops

I know this is irresponsible but every time I make a quick run to the pharmacy or something I leave my car on and lock the doors.

Especially in the summer time, To keep the car nice and cool
