Rear Window always misty/foggy
I'm putting this out there for the rest of the forum....I'm probably spending at least 50% of the time with the rear-window defroster turned on because the rear-window is always fogging up. Strange thing is that this can be at pretty much all exterior temperatures, and it's just the rear-window and not the sides/front. What could potentially cause this?

I believe it's actually the residuals from new plastics and adhesives burning off in the system. Had this issue on another new car a few years back. Goes away within a couple months.

Keeping the "snowflake" switch ON would help get rid of excess humidity. The auto climate control system knows when to engage the AC depending on temp and humidity readings.

Yeah if you've not got the climate control on auto then you're not dehumidifying the car. I don't know how many people think A/C is just for cooling air but you should have A/C on even when the heaters are on.

Sorry guys but I always leave the A/C on. Must be something else. Hoping it's the plastics explanation.

That's really odd then. Not ever had it happen to me in a car before, not in twenty new cars

might be some people banging in the back seat with an invisibility cloak covering your view. The next time it mists up, try reaching out into the back seat and grabbing around. You would be surprised

Plastics????
So does this mist or fog just stay there? I'd be trying to identify if it is condensation (as in water). Does it dry off, disappear with the heated rear screen, or just stay there as a film? HighlandPete |

Yeah, it's more like a film....the heat does seem to clear a bit with the heated rear window, but it's not as much like water condensation....it's more like a filmy substance. Strange thing is that it does build during driving, and then go away visually when it's stopped.

99.9% of the time my A/C is on. Winterime/summertime/Anytime. Only when I want to do a 1/4 mile sprint @ trafficlights I will put A/C(and Heated seats etc) off to get that 3/5HP extra. So make that 100% of the time I'm having A/C on. Cheers Robin |
