Why Sell Original N55 Exhausts?

Is there a market for original N55 exhaust systems? I've noticed owners advertising their old exhaust systems for sale, presumably because they replaced it with an MPE or other performance exhaust. But, why would anyone want to buy their old ones (unless they were rear-ended)? Can N20 engines use them if they want a dual exhaust?

can the n20 use them? yes. should owners with the n20 use them? no.. that is a waste of time and money.

you did bring up a good point though. who is going to buy the stock exhaust? the only reasonable idea I can think of is that someone has decided to get a downpipe which will be very loud with a high flow catback. I have heard videos of downpipe setups with the stock exhaust and it sounds amazing and is quite loud, but makes no sound when you are accelerating normally.

anyways, I always say downpipe > catback. its like 10-15HP gains vs at most 3-4HP with a catback. it makes a difference, but no where near as big of a difference as a downpipe.

It's most likely for those who are turning in a lease and want to go back to stock, but didn't keep their stock exhaust.

Holding onto heavy/large exhaust parts isn't an option for some, and selling their MPE or aftermarket exhaust can recoup some of the cost.

OK, that makes sense.

Maybe if the old one got rusted out for replacement parts? Similar to selling the MPPK for the 335i as there's a market for it.

I would love to enjoy that sound and experience the HP increase, but not at the expense of having to smell those fumes every day.

My stock exhaust was just taking up space in our garage. In order to quickly move it out, I offered it for free on a local BMW enthusiasts FB group. I had a taker immediately, who planned to "upgrade" his 328 exhaust. As another poster commented, I'm unsure of the merit of that. Regardless, it's out of my garage!

I sold mine to a forum member that wanted to go from single to dual outlets. Short money.
