This was left on my passenger seat after the recode was done.

The update's done, very painless, once the dealer got the authorization from BMW it took less than an hour to do the physical recode. Here's how it functions:

Remembers last state always.

If stop engine in Comfort mode, ASS stays off on restart.

If stop engine in Sport mode, ASS stays off on restart.

If swap mode from Comfort to Sport mode, ASS stays off.

If swap mode to Eco Pro mode, ASS turns on.

If stop engine in Eco Pro mode, ASS stays on on restart.

In a nutshell, behaves as you'd expect. You can jump between the Sport and Comfort mode as much as you want, ASS stays off. So long as you turn ASS off once and never put the car in Eco Pro mode, it'll never bother you again.

BJ
Got mine back today with the ASS reprogrammed. Works as indicated above.

My service center refused my request. I even mentioned the Service bulletin# and they said it is preliminary recall and there is no actual recall for my vehicle. Is this true? Do i need to call BMWNA first?

It is not a recall. It is a free re-code being offered for F30 owners who request it.

Your dealer is misinformed. You bring the car in, they request permission from BMW, an hour later you're done.

Has anyone in the UK managed to get this done? I've asked my dealer to do it before I collect the car on 1st Sep, but they are denying any knowledge of any such service bulletin.

Because it was a private neighborhood, and I had clear visibility, I started to go almost immediately. I completely forgot about the stop/start, but it shut the engine down right as I was letting go of the brake, which kicked the start sequence in at the same moment. The car jerked a bit, and the engine stalled. Getting it started again involves a lot more steps than you'd think.
OK, I didn't realise the car could shift the 8AT into neutral by itself. This is strange and I can understand how stressful it would feel when it happens in heavy traffic.

Hope it can be resolved.

The engine starting back up is rough, not a huge deal but if I can get rid of it without having to press the button each time then you can bet I will do that. The F30 we have now is my brother's and I know he wants to get rid of Auto Start Stop, I'm thinking about getting an F32 for my next car and I'll program it to stay off too.

It's worth mentioning that I spend almost no time stopped at lights for long periods of time and it isn't really saving fuel when the engine shuts off for a four second stop only to have to start right back up again.

had this done immediately!.. took 2 days total but was only in the shop for 2-3 hrs..something about sending bmw my info which took a whole day so they can send it back vin specific and reprogram/update. um blah blah just get it done! for what its worth, its a great feature that i care less for-it should be an option. every time id forget to deactivate it and my car would cut off at a stop sign or red light i just felt like punching the individual or somebody who decided this would be standard all across.. for those who like it- enjoy. but lets not forget the real motive of why we all got the new f30 with the n20 in it ..for its good looks, good handling, and good mpg without losing engine performance. imo

Going by the number of people jumping at the chance to get the coding done, looks like a lot of folks were not happy with the ASS system...and this is great news for them

mine was done today pre-delivery. No questions asked but they did say it took a while to re-program the system.

this reprogram doesn't affect the engine at all, as in detune the motor or effect throttle response, does it?

No.

Simply makes the last ASS setting 'stick' and adds 100 HP and 200 FPS of torque making the 335i outdated.

Three weeks ago I told my sales guy that I wanted "SI B12 15 12" applied during the prep of my car, when it showed up. I emailed him all of the information about it.

On Saturday (Aug 18), he emails me to let me know that my car will get to Albuquerque on Monday, and I should be able to pick it up on Tuesday. I emailed back, thanking him, and reminding him that I wanted "SI B12 15 12" applied.

Yesterday (Aug 20), I go get my first look at my new car. I once again ask to make sure that "SI B12 15 12" is going to be applied, and they guy acts like he has no idea what I am talking about! He says he will have to ask the service department if they know about it.

Today he calls me, and says that while the service department does know something about it, they have never done it, and don't have the tools to do it. I will have to bring the car back in later to have it performed --- Oh, and by the way, I should expect to have to pay standard labor charges for however long it takes to do that programming.

We couldn't have ours done at delivery either (8/9) - dealer had to get some download which kept failing all last week - bringing it back 2nd time tomorrow.

Your dealer is wrong - BMW, not you, will pay them for their labor on this.

Warning: this dealer is incompetent.

After telling you it was a recall just to get you to leave them alone (they'd already exceeded the daily limit on "We can't do it until the Moon and Jupiter align" as well as four other let's-make-something-up-to-cover-the-fact-that-we're-idiots excuses), you would still consider taking your car back to them?

After that, you'd trust them to hook up your car to a computer and apply a fix that changes the vehicle order stored in the car? (Read the SIB carefully -- it notes that this reprogramming gets added to the original configuration of the car.) You'd let them mess around with the guts of a highly-digital car?

Not me, man. I'd drive your F30 as fast as you dare somewhere else.
