iPod Compatibility

When I plug my iPod into the USB port in the armrest in my 2016 F36 the iDrive says "not supported"

I have an iPod Nano 4th Generation and I am using an official BMW Y cable which I purchased for my previous car in 2012. It's the older style iPod connection, not the lighting connection.

Has anyone got any ideas??

I think only iOS devices may be supported.

I bought an iPod classic to use with my MY14 F30, it just kept crashing. But my iPhone 5 and later 6 work fine.

My Ipod works fine using the USB. What iOS version are you running?

I'm not too good with iPods and iOS, does the 4th Gen Nano support iOS?

If not, that may be the reason why iDrive doesn't like it.

Try the original Apple USB cable. I don't think that you need the Y cable on more recent cars. I'm pretty sure that when I switched from my 2010 F10 to a 2014 F30 I had to ditch the Y cable and just use a regular USB at that point.

I may be wrong, but I think its only the iPod touch that uses iOS, so the USB connection may not work.

+1 for using original iPod cable, Have an older iPod (non iOS) and it works fine with the standard USB.

Garage List
BMW do 2 different types of Y cable.

The one I had and was using on my e92 didn't work with the 435, so had to buy the other one. Worth going ot BMW and trying which cable works.

I use an old 5th (or is it 6th?) generation 80gb iPod classic.

Slightly unrelated but, having just moved my music from an iPhone 5s where the output was much quieter through Bluetooth than through the USB cable, the 6s is much LOUDER on Bluetooth than through USB.

Try adjusting the volume on your phone during Bluetooth playback...

You misunderstandeth me sir! What I'm saying is that the same music files played on Bluetooth from the 5s are reproduced much quieter (at full volume on the iPhone) compared to the 6s on identical settings. I'm guessing that the Bluetooth signal output from the 6s is much higher than the 5s.
