Oil Temp 265+
I've read many posts where people are concerned that their cars are running at 240-250 F, but today (just cruising at 80 MPH in 6th gear) my 435i reached an all time high oil temp of around 270 F.. By the time I took the attached pic it went back down to around 255 F, but this seems a bit high for a car cruising at 80 MPH in 70 degree heat.. Anyone else get this high with normal driving?
Edit: the file pic is apparently too big for this small forum.

The most my N26 got to was half way(250F?), that's at 70-80mph highway cruising. My understanding is that the ECU keeps engine temperature high for improved fuel efficiency while cruising.

You are Fine.
The N55 was probably just running in Economy mode with coolant temps at around 108C (226F) and higher oil temps The N55 will only go into: 1)Component protection mode if oil temperature reaches 150C (300F), coolant 117C (242F) (Air conditioner and engine power reduced) 2)Emergency mode if oil reaches 158C (315F), coolant 125C(257F) (Engine power further reduced) You could check that your oil cooler air channel isnt blocked by something like a leaf of packet just to be sure

With this, my oil is always around 205-220...still really hot, but much better than stock. It's rare to see it much higher even when pushing it. 240+ oil temps while cruising is silly. |

if that is the maximum temps are getting, i would not be too worried about it.
Just keep an eye on it and make sure that it is not increasing. Whenever the ECU feels that the car is running above normal temps, you will get a code and car will go into limp mode.

Just to be sure, might have picked up a hitchhiker on the highway.
