Hi,
felt compelled to share in case someone else is interested. After 800 miles on the brand new Conti Runflats that my CPO 328 came with last month I bit the bullet and took them off because they are just THAT crap to drive on. The Tire guy warned me of dire consequences to the handling ('because the car is designed only for runflats...yeah bollocks), and made me sign a release of course....anyhow; I put Michelin AS3 all season Z rated tires on it with the Z rating being the stiffer sidewall setting of the two versions of this tire available....nothing else has been changed on the car yet and pressure is 35psi all round.

1. annoying tire roar....gone
2. floaty handling esp. on rough NY roads....gone
3. Steering feel improved significantly and softness of suspension is no worse with these go flats.
4. 55-65mph rumble....gone
5. cornering is predicatable and precise
6. car does not hop off line with corner bumps

ALMOST feels like a BMW at last.....next up is either B6 Bilsteins, (X Drive car)...OR Dinans/B8s......I do not want a track car and New York has roads that are worse than in Africa so lowering is risky....but it's still too soft for my taste.

That is debatable, but they do make a good tire.

I noticed similar results when I went with BFGoodrich G-Force Comp-2 A/S. I went with those instead of the A/S3 primarily due to the reviews online and comparisons. I am happy with the Comp-2 A/S. I have been using UHPAS from BF for many years and they have always impressed me as they perform up there with the best UHPAS for a fraction of the cost and tend to last at least 40K miles. The COMP-2 A/S is a 45K tire like the A/S3.

So glad to hear this. I'm having my Comp 2 A/Ss put on today to replace my Pirelli P Zero runflats.

I couldn't agree more, I got some HRE 19s last week and took the opportunity to switch from the default Conti RFTs to Yoko Advans, and it's an insane difference. I hadn't fully realized how much of that ambient noise was actually tire noise, the car is so silent after the switch. Super supple ride, phenomenal handling compared to before. I'm running 19s w 40-35 profile and Dinan springs, and honestly the ride feels softer/smoother/more comfortable to me than stock setup w RFTs.

Are these the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S3 or the A/S3+ (Plus)? The +/Plus is supposed to improve winter performance significantly.

These are just the AS3s...but in Z rating...(they come in V also)

Im looking to get those tires on my car the AS3+. How do you like the performance of it. I live in socal so our weather is pretty nice year round but I do go up to the mountains in the winter seasons so summer tires are kind of pointless. I do have xdrive as well. I only can find Y rating for them though.

well the ride is far better than the runflats....wet grip far better and road noise is much reduced....still need the car to be firmer, but that's a shocks issue...at 39000 miles the OEM shocks are done...or rather they are just too soft to start with.

Southern New York....might as well be cobbled....better roads in Africa....and yes I've been!

The reality is the standard shocks are just too damn soft...it bottoms out REALLY easily if you hit a 'raised plow' at anything over 50 on I684 for example. I get why BMW does this....horrible American roads and use of runflat tires that have sidewalls with zero flex in them. Arse about face suspension...IMHO.

What are you guys doing in regards to preparedness for a flat? I want to make the switch as well but with no spare BMW puts us in a tough spot. Thinking of buying one of the tire mobility kits (inflator and tire sealant) but since my wife drives the car too with the kids I just don't feel good about swapping out the runflats.

The green slime fix a flat stuff at Walmart is what I had (but never used) on my E90. I'm about to switch from the S001s to a non rft as well and I'll probably pick up the slime kit again.

If you have the ability/skill to change a tire, avoid the Slime kits. It's a disaster trying to clean up.

Just get a BMW mobility kit (jack stand?) and a kit that has tire plugs and an air compressor.
