Anyone used detailing Clay Pads/Blocks?

There are a few available but this Chemical Guys kit has caught my eyes.

Does anyone have experience of them? Are they as good a traditional clay?

They look like a great alternative as they're washable and reusable many times.

I use a G3 clay mitt, you can get them from Halfrauds. I find it very good, I give it a good soak beforehand, break it in by doing the glass first then the bodywork. And you can use it a good few times.

Oh no, another choice!

Is it this one? http://www.halfords.com/motoring-tra...prep-clay-mitt

And do you use lube with it? And is it washable?

Cleanyourcar also have something similar: http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/detail...prod_1390.html

Yes I just give it a rinse and a wipe over by hand, then just let it dry naturally.

I just use my normal shampoo (dodo juice born to be mild), one bit of advise when using any type on clay cloth or mitt, get plent of lub on the surface as they can be a bit more aggressive than regular clay. I find it really good, you can literally hear it picking up the contamination, I don't apply any pressure just let it glide accross the surface, rinse then just repeat.

Yes that's the one in your link, think there's 3 for two on at the moment so makes for a good buy.

I prefer built hamber, decent choice of clays, soft regular, medium.

That and some decent lube although water can be used.

I like Dodo Juice Born Slippy.

http://www.bilthamber.com/clay-bars

I also really like Supernatural Micro Prime as a pre wax cleanser.

Clay mitt here as well. After years of using a traditional clay it is so much easier.

Great thread - I'm a cleaning newbie so learning a lot from the recent thread on car washing and this one. Fact is I've never cleaned any car I've owned (so far that includes a Vauxhall Corsa and a Seat Ibiza - no big loss there!).

Picked up my 330d last month and not cleaned it yet, as was in the midst of busy season at work and have exams coming up. As a post exam treat I will be cleaning my car for the first time and just shopping for products now.

Clay Mitt seems to be the way to go - question is what do you use as the lube? I noticed in Meguiar's clay bar kit their use their Quik detailer as the lube so would it be suitable to use the following:

http://www.halfords.com/motoring-tra...detailer-650ml

Or are there better products to use?

From what I've read it's best to get a proper clay lube, I'll probably go for this one as it's a top brand and only £6 for 500ml http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/detail...prod_1119.html

Cleanyourcar also sell a mitt: http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/detail...prod_1390.html

I bought autoglym rapid detailer to use with my new mitt http://www.amazon.co.uk/Autoglym-RD5...2110582&sr=1-4 but haven't got round to trying it yet as busy clay barring my wheels, it surprising how much of the black crap the clay removes even after wheel cleaner and power wash.

Then a couple of coats of Collinite wax seems to do the trick. Never been into detailing before but I do like shiny wheels

Cheers Teaston! That mitt looks good - can be used on 60 cars! Should last me 10 years then at least haha.

I wouldn't bother with the clay lube, for my liking that simply isn't enough for a mitt and would lead to maring.

As long as you use a shampoo with no added gloss enhancers or wax it will be fine.

So how do you do it with your normal car shampoo, in laymans terms please?

After washing the car and making sure it is still wet use the mitt in a clean bucket of shampoo/water as you normally would a sponge.
