Thanks for the feedback, so it sounds like I should stick with E-Sys for coding and use a diag tool for checking and clearing fault codes.

If your Steering Rack has an EPS FSC Code you will need to import it into the replacement EPS, which is only possible if donor steering rack has no FSC Code in it already or an older one than yours. PM sent.

Right now the eps is working but incorrectly,
When I start the car if it’s not working I turn the car off and back on & most times it will work. Sometimes it takes 3-5 tries of turning the car on & off before I get it working.
I just replaced the rack a couple days ago and been trying to download the program to code, I’m at the point to take it to my mechanic who can code it for $90. I want to do it tho.

Long story short I finally got everything programmed correctly.
I was having trouble connecting to the car with the e-net cable. My pc wouldn't connect to the car. I had to restart the pc, go into my bios and make sure my LAN was enabled. it wasn't so I enabled it. turned off Bluetooth, turned off Wi-Fi. I had to go into advanced settings and disable Wi-Fi, & bt. I used bimmer utility along with the latest files, e-sys 3.40.2 & PSdZData v4.40.21. When the car didn't want to connect, I would just turn it off for a couple minutes and then start up and it would show up in E-sys to connect to vin.
I purchased a used complete eps steering rack from lkqonline.com, just made sure it was the right one for my car which was the rwd coupe version. Once I installed the part, the steering wheel was working but the codes were showing. I restarted the car and that's when the steering wheel was hard to turn. Now the car is working perfectly. I got help from this video

big thanks to shawnssheridan, he was super responsive & because of him i had all the proper knowledge to get this job done. THANK YOU

need help

I don't know if any of you have faced this problem, but I need your help.
I want to retrofit option S5AGA-Lane-change warning and followed this tutorial. Everything is great. I retrofit all the wires harness, sensors and etc. But the problem was that the steering column switch unit was without S248A-Steering wheel heater, S5ACA-High-beam assistant, S5AGA-Lane-change warning and S5ASA-Driving Assistant functions options and the steering wheel was without steering wheel control unit mod., M-Sport. I bought them and retrofit (part numbers is good for my 2018 F30), but now I have several errors in ISTA that I don't know how to solve.

ERRORS
030351 – K-LIN 16 steering column switch cluster (SZL): Wrong version
Incorrect control unit detected on LIN bus
  1. Check encoding of master control unit and recode if necessary
  2. Check correct installation of slave control unit (part number)
D90D19 – Assist system operating unit (BEFAS) (LIN): Incorrect version installed
Incorrect driver assistance system operating facility variant detected
  1. Check encoding
  2. Install correct BEFAS version
and the last one
030481 – Steering wheel module (SWM), steering wheel heating NTC contact: Internal fault

I don't have a heated steering wheel and I need to turn this option off.
I hope you can help me and tell me what I have to do to make everything work as it should.

I cracked the motor and need a replacement also. I noticed there are 3 tabs in the motor itself connect the electrical and mechanical parts. Do you think it’s possible to disassemble the motor and only replace the mechanical part to skip coding?

Just removed my cracked eps motor. It’s hard to disconnect the electrical part from the mechanical part(only mechanical part was cracked) even with 3 tabs open. I may just need to buy a new motor and reprogram it.

New to the cable coding. Can I get the link to download the software?

Thanks!

Where did you get the rack? Do you need to do alignment also?
I opened the motor/belt housing assembly today. It's really hard to tell why the steering is making noise. Only thing I could imagine is the belt itself but it looks ok. Found no where to buy the belt itself so may end up buying a used rack as well.

It’s in the post above where I purchased the rack. And I’m getting a wheel alignment right now as I type. I’d search eBay or maybe call some online stores. Or possible look for hydraulic type of places that specialize in hoses & belts.

e-sys problem

Hello Shawn
I have an F36, E-Sys 3.30.1, E-sys launcher pro 2.8.1 and PSDZData 4.27.20. When I run a "read coding data" on a "CAFD", it displays a "report 1 errors.
Would it be possible to send me the latest version of "PSDZData", please?
Thanks in advance

I assume you mean BimmerUtility.

For FDL Coding, E-Sys requires a 3rd Party “Mapping” application such as BimmerUtility as it Provides CAFD Mapping. BMW AG made changes to PSdZData beginning with 54.2 PSdZData where they removed (trimmed) all descriptive text from CAFD and FAFP files, making FDL Coding of ECU's difficult, as the FDL Codes can no longer be easily located. The "Mapping" application dynamically maps the trimmed data back into CAFD file making FDL Coding possible. BimmerUtility is NOT needed for VO (FA) Coding nor ECU Programming (Flashing) as these can be performed with E-Sys direct.

Hi,

Want to follow up on the EPS replacement you did because I am doing the same thing.

Shawn told me I need to buy a rack older than my car otherwise if there is a FSC in the rack I won't be able to use it.

What's your consideration when you bought the rack? Did you have to import FSC as well in coding?

Thanks!
I didn’t look up anything like that
I just made sure it was rwd and nothing I didn’t have like an extra steering option.
I didn’t listen to that because I had a mechanic replace it before and he didn’t say anything about that. I know that the one i purchased was newer then I expected but no problems at all. I don’t think it matters in that way you’re basically just telling the ecu this is the steering rack

So you don't have S216 Servotronic (change steering feeling in different speed/driving mode)?

Thanks for the info!
