Smile F80 Carbon Fiber retrofit

Got the center vent trim piece done tonight... Will do the other parts over the weekend but thought I would share initial progress.

Thoughts?

not sure why the pic is sideways.. every time I upload it rotates it incorrectly.

Thanks... I'll upload more pics when I finish the install.

Agree... Several aftermarket options out there.... but i'm a perfectionist and potential quality concerns with the weave pattern, markings in the finish, and overall fitment pushed me to go OEM.

Matt @ Ocarbon did my S4 a while back, the finish wasn't perfect but it was like $550. My main concern with ocarbon is that he lays the CF on top of existing trim, adding a quarter inch of material... It caused fitment issues on my s4, never again.

Anyways - I'm really happy with the OEM CF from BMW. The interior looks more sporty, exotic, upscale blah blah blah i love it

My ocarbon quote was $800 plus 4 weeks. M performance ( which is a possible option) would be $725 from bmw elcajon. I suspect these parts would be around that (except the door handles). 4 will be pricey.

He did mine in my 435i and both fitment and weave came out as perfect as perfect gets. It's OEM quality and no different than many of the Overtake parts on my GTR (the most high-end parts available for the car...$12K exhaust systems, $3K trunk spoilers, etc.) and I don't accept anything less than the best when I mod my cars.

Looks great, though. Had M3/4 parts been available in February, I would have gone that route too.

Looking good so far!
Considering the price of the M Performance kit, the price doesn't seem completely unreasonable.

It may be wortth having the door handles done at ocarbon. I just can't deal with the 195 per handle. That or 725 for the perf. This just looks much nicer.

That's actually a lot less expensive than I had imagined. I never priced the pieces out, but I imagined it to be closer to $3K (full carbon AMG interior for my GF's old SL63 was $4500).

In for more pics. I'm sure it looks great.

I've seen the M3 / M4 interior at my dealership.

Leather handles,

They also have a leather extension to the console on the passenger side, I guess to pad the knee when hard cornering...

Another difference between OEM and oCarbon... the bottom strip is a glossy black on the OEM set.. really looks good against the CF.

Can't go wrong either way, the CF looks amazing on these cars.

Good idea. However i personally think it puts too much CF in the interior.. I think the black leather handles will keep it a little more understated and luxurious.

Yeah it's a black chrome or polished gunmetal finish. If you have the pieces made, the highlight trim remains whatever you sent him. My original trim was hex/black and I bought a spare set of wood/aluminum to have retrofitted. The aluminum highlight trim is the same as the trim on the steering wheel, some of the HVAC bits, and door handles.

The factory door pulls were a PITA to remove, but the rest of the pieces are simple with plastic pry tools.
