I'd like to see a real key again... no more start/stop button, no more comfort access. None of that stop/start engine crap.

I want a piece of steel I can jab into the steering column and twist to start the car.

There will be no other models sold in the US.

The 8 speed auto will be standard equipment on both models, while a 6 speed manual will be optional.
I don't think DCT will be available right away, but hopefully they will offer it in the US at the time the M-Sport package arrives.

Standard I-Drive.
Optional navigation system upgrades IDrive to larger screen.

No F31 touring for US. 3 series GT arrives in 2014.
3 series Gran Coupe in 2015.
I think BMW will retain the 300 HP N55...maybe just tweak it to give a bit more; most cars including hte S4, Panamera V6, Infinitis are developing in the 300 HP range -- so this number is likely to stay for 3-4 years at least.

Plus I don't see the next M3 doing better than 450 HP with an I6 twin turbo engine.

Ok, but why people speculate the new version of NA I6 in the 5 and X3 will disappear from the F30?

Because it will!

The NA I6 (N52) will be 8 years old when the F32 debuts. Regulations are forcing lower emissions and better fuel economy. There will be no reason to keep the N52 in any of the models, and the intro of the F30 is a great way to highlight the introduction of a new FI I4.

Right - exactly. And "300 HP range" is clearly not the same as 300hp. In fact, both the S4 and the Infiniti G37 are well over 300hp - 333hp for the S4 and 328hp for the G37. So in fact 340hp for the next 3 series is very likely.

The Panamera only makes 300hp but that car is irrelevant as far as competition for the 3 series.

It might not, but that too isn't really relevant. The 1M makes only 10% more power than the 135i and BMW will still sell everyone they can make. With 450hp, the M3 will still be a healthy 30%+ more power than a theoretical 340hp 340i.

I give it a 50/50 shot between introduction with the F20 1 series hatchback and the F30 3 series sedan (the 1 series arrives first between the two). Actually, the 1 series might have the slight edge in reality given that - for now anyway - that car is sort of BMW's poster child for small/efficient transportation

Yes, good point. F20 is the right way to introduce new FI I4.

And I meant to write the N52 will be 8 years old when the F30 debuts, even older when the F32 comes out!

How about

-Hydraulic Power steering so it retains the excellent BMW steering that a 3-series is known for.
-Make Runflats an Option and have normal 17" tires on with a spare in the trunk.
-Xenons standard
-Leather and Power seats standard, Nappa Leather optional
-8 speed auto a no cost option.
-iDrive standard, Navigation optional

I'm hoping it will be having most of the features the new X3 have:

HUD
Dynamic Damper Control
8-Speed Steptronic
3 Cameras
8.8" Display

That would be sweet.

Although I'm sure the F30 will have several improvements, features that I'll have on the E90 I ordered and actually prefer are:
  • Hydraulic steering
  • NO I-drive/NAV
  • The current size - I don't want a car any larger
  • Any additional electronic doo-dads that will only break once the warranty is up and cost big bucks. It's bad enough as it is!

The new X3 is losing the NA I6 in October of this year in favor of the turbo 4...the writing is on the wall, bye-bye NA I6

I would love ventilated seats. However, in Canada if you want them on the X5 or 5 series you have to get the top model x5 50i or 550i. Hope it won't be like this with the f30.
