N55 flash tuning - 14psi/1bar limitation

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Talked to my tuner who said there is a 14.5psi/1bar limitation on the software they cannot crack. Anyone else heard about this / know any tuners that has cracked it? I faintly recall something about a limitation in the TMAP sensor - could that cause it? I don't think the N20 has this problem..?

no tmap reads till 1.5bar, most jb4 users running over 1bar easily..

N20 has the same problem.
You can go above 1,0. It just cut the curve sooner.
Many are working on this,- so sit tight and wait, alternatively use JB4.

Its not a sensor limitation but rather an ECU limitation . The n54 has a limitation of 18.5 psi. You cannot target more than 18.5 psi on COBB unless you use their race logic ( only available for protuners).
JB4 is a different story since it tricks the ECU

The wait might be very long for this one

I wish Cobb would crack the code for N55 (the F30 stuff anyway).
The AP pro-tune for the N54 was the best thing since sliced bread.
I hit 21lbs with Vargas stage 2 Turbos on 93 Octane on my N54 FBO.
The power was insane.
I don't know why they have not pursued this more aggressively.
That being said I am loving my JB4. Nice smooth power delivery. I would like to feel what a pure turbo upgrade and down pipe with JB4 feels like.

first solution - You need to send your ECU. This will not be a popular for obvious reasons ( no flexibility , car will be down for a while)

Second solution - Put a lot of money into R&D to come up with an AP V3 similar solution. Big risk of not being able to come up with any solution and lose a lot of money and even they do have a solution it will be very costly so demand won't be that great.

If only I could get 14psi to redline I would be super happy, but seems the tuners are only capable of offsetting the torque curve and not able to really boost in the high rpm's.

ESS offered me a Flash tune since I cannot make their E-tronic work. They said that they will be able to utilize a turbo upgrade...but so have other tuners.

News from ESS Tuning...

ESS has a >flash tuned< F80 with upgrated turbos running 24psi @ 7000rpm. They (Asbjorn Bohn) says they can tune the N55 the same way. E.g. 14psi @ 7000rpm if the hardware support it

Now...how will put this to the test?

I am only a few more answers away from sending my ECU across the Atlantic to have it tuned

I can manipulate mine to hold +14 psi to max rpm. (flash + "fix". This is however not to safe, but it's coming.
To be continued...

The problem is everyone that needs a flash tune will need to send in their ECU.
At this point flash tuning is just not worth it in my opinion. Either stay stock waiting for a flash tune similar to Cobb AP or get a piggy.

I did not send mine. We dismantled it on spot as you need to make a "Path". This doesn't take long.
The tuning afterwards is done though the OBD port.

Hi there
Finally we passed the 1 baro / 14,5 psi limitation.
We read 1,5 baro / (21,5) psi as max. And hereby got the presseure limit fault activated.
I'm running 1,1 baro know to see what limitations I Can provoke during High speed / max uphill acceleration.
The drop is less: 1,1 to 0,75 (0,8 sometimes) up to 1,0 is possible but a little to risky as there is no safeguard yet.
During the coming week we'll try and do some "housecleaning" in all the files as I'm running with almost impossible to reach limits on too Many things.

We're getting closer. Maybe we need other software from faster models to compare as well.

The tuner has to be local or you need to send your ECU, unless i misunderstood your reply.
