2012 Detroit NAIAS: BMW F30 3 Series Makes North American Debut (Base, Sport, Luxury)
BIMMERPOST NEWS 2012 Detroit NAIAS: BMW F30 3 Series Makes North American Debut We're here live at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show (NAIAS) where the star of the BMW display this year, the 2012 BMW 3 Series Sedan (F30), has just made its North American debut. On display so far is a base model (no lines) F30 328i in glacier silver, a 335i luxury line, and a 328i sport line. We're told that the M Sport will be hitting the floor a bit later so we'll try to snag some photos when it makes its appearance. The F30's official launch to market comes in just over a month - on February 11th. While the full F30 online configurator with pricing hasn't yet launched, we're told that it should be up by next week. For now, we have plenty of resources for you to configure your own F30: - F30 Official Info Thread - Guide to F30 "Lines" - Guide to M Sport Package - F30 FAQ - F30 Pricing Guide - F30 Ordering Guide We'll also be speaking with BMW reps about particular F30 topics, so stay tuned for more info on the F30. Also stay tuned for more coverage of other BMW models at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show. PRESS RELEASE

Jason can you confirm the US base 328i does not have the extra cooler behind the US passenger side foglight as found on the Sport Line 328i ?
One can see the Sport Line 328i cooler in the pics above

BMW's are over priced more so now than ever now days. I cannot justify paying 45k for a heavy loaded 328i that's not really that much larger than the E90 model. Sure fuel econ is a bit better, but features wise you need to option them heavily to get what you really want. Base models look very BASE. Just saw that new 2013 Ford Fusion that will come with a 2.0 turbo 4 and a RWD biased AWD system. Exterior design is amazing and so many features for the price.

keep in mind that now the 3er fills the spot in bmw's line up as the old 5er in the new world order. Its grown a full class size from the e46 to the F30, basically mirroring the dimensions of the e39, so you have to understand that this is no longer their entry car in the market. If you want an entry car to compare to a fusion, you have to look at the 1er now. And while price may be competitive for the ford, im sure you wont mistake the driving experience between them....

Thanks for the pics Jason, would love too see some interior shots with all the interior lights turned on. Do you know if F30 have the same interior ambientlight as the 5 series?

Thanks for the pictures.
+1 on request for more interior shots of the base with lights on. I guess there is no non-Xenon equipped car on the floor. Would have been nice to see what that looked like with lights on & off but I guess BMW couldn't bring themselves to put halogens on the show floor. |

I am actually really liking what I see. It's the first time I see a standard interior not one of those goofy blue and red multi colored abominations. Are there any pictures of a 328i like the one above with black leather seating and some sort of wood trim?
Also: does anyone know if the silver 328i above has the sport package?

Options have always been a "problem" with BMW's in terms of price. Every review, it's the price of options that seem to be a con, it sucks but at this point you just accept it. Regardless of what Mercedes or Audi is doing, you pay if you want to play.
I just can't wait to see the configurator and how BMW will allow us to build the 3er. I would love to have the base 3er and add things I want instead of getting a line and have the funky cluster and steering wheel. |

Only the Sport Line and M Sport F30 models have the extra cooler behind the passenger side foglights. Those are seen as the sportier models, where extra cooling may come in handy for more spirited driving.
