Tosca headed to the West Coast

Anyone else on WW line's Tosca? Left 5/16/17. Curious as to why it headed first to the East coast, and is now on its way down to Panama (Manzanillo), then out to Oxnard (West cost -LA)?

P.S. How does the ship get through Panama...? There's no way that it goes ALL the way around South America, right?
