BMS 3.5in Exhaust Tips Unboxing, Install, and Review

While strolling through the forums last week, I came across a thread on BMS's Exhaust tips. Looked through the site, chose the style I wanted (Burnt Titanium, Slant Cut), and 4 days later received my tips. Here is a small right up on said tips:

Ordering and Shipping
Ordered the tips directly from BMS's website. Cost me $80.00 including shipping. Took about 2 days to ship from their place in California; arrived at my place about 2 days later. Tips were packed nicely. Wrapped in bubble wrap and placed in a box that was just right. Box weighed about 2 lbs.

Install

Installation took me about 15 minutes. Took about 10 minutes to take the old tips off. Did that by using a wooden block and hammer wrapped with a microfiber towel. I placed the wooden block behind the stock tips, hit the block with short strokes till it moved forward, then used my hands to slide them off.
To install the new tips I did the following. I took the new tips and lined up the guide notch on the tip with the guide peg on the exhaust pipe. I pushed the tip till the clips caught the pipe. Then I folded a microfiber towel a few times, placed it over the tip, and eased it in with a hammer. That part took about 5 minutes for both tips.

Review

From the pictures on the site, I initially thought the tips were a little small and that the blue from the titanium would look childish...however after the install my doubts are all gone. These tips are a major improvement over the stock tips. They are thicker, and look larger. Also, they feel really nice too, like OEMs. I opted for the slant cut burnt titanium and do not regret it. The burnt look is not overdone, but still makes a statement. And the slant cut adds a little more sportiness too. Overall, I like these tips and am happy with my purchase. Here are some glamour shots. Enjoy!

Aatish,

That was a really good review, only lacked a picture of the wooden block, microfiber towel, hammer combo

Thinking about just taking a rubber mallet to them tomorrow as mine arrived and I will have the car on a lift anyways since I need to replace the ER Downpipe bung plug...beware that thing can come out and give you a headache from too much CO!

Glad you liked it!

Having the car lifted will probably help you out a lot. As you may have noticed, I had to get down pretty low, which meant I couldn't hit as hard with my wooden microfiber-hammer .

Post some pics once you get them on!

Not gonna lie, I feel a little "ricer" having these on my car. I was going stealth black, but after Clastres, France rolling races felt I needed to represent BMS a little better and figured I would go all out with the titanium finish.

I wish the finish was over black or longer so the chrome wasn't so noticeable from the side view, but meh it was $69.00.

Drive with them for a while. The wear makes them less "flamboyant".

When I walked up to my car the first time after driving off the lift, I was having major regrets because they looked HUGE and were SUPER shiny. but you are right I am sure I will get used to it.

Not a fan of the burnt titanium look but they do look good on your car

The "ricer" feeling is from the plasti-dipped wheels, not the tips.

Lol, touché touché, but I might as well embrace the look now, and go with this...

Ehhh, the color was a little intense at first, but now it's toned down a bit. The original tips were good and all, but they really didn't fill the gap right. These fill the gap nicely, and the slant looks cool :b

thanks for the review. I am looking to pick these up for my estoril blue 335. do you think i should go with gloss black or the titanium? How much larger in diameter are these over the stock tips?

The inner diameter is roughly the same as the stock tips (maybe a 1/4th of an inch bigger). The outer diameter is roughly 1/2 of an inch to 3/4 inch larger. Compared to the stock tips, they fill the exhaust cutout a lot better, and stick out about the same.

For estoril blue, if you have chrome trim all around then I'd go titanium or chrome. If you have blacked out trim and grill, then the gloss black will fit better IMO.

Sweet. Thanks for the information. I have gloss black m3 grills and 30% tint soon. I think black will look great. I thought of titanium only because the color stands out and would possibly go with the Estoril.

Burnt tips, straight cut

I thought that is the worst and most obnoxious choice...

Had them for months now... And i love them!

Will post photos later
